I got a 66k mi, salvage titled '04 with far less damage (trunk was done in by a tree limb back in '08). Still has all VINs, no frame damage at all, no fitment issues. Only issue is poor paintwork at the repair spots. That was $15k just over a month ago.

I would not spend $20k on this.

These cars are notorious for handling to be off for the smallest of things. Tire pressure differences are noticeable let along a frame that is not intact.

You may be okay with a salvage title but the person who you want to sell it to down the road will not feel the same way.

Even a clean title doesn't mean everything is fine. There could easily be unreported damage that the owner fixed out of pocket rather than through insurance. Always get the car checked out by a mechanic if you can.

Best of luck on your quest!

Same advice for a dealer. During my quest, I looked at some clean titled cars at dealers that had been in non-totalled accidents that still showed enough subframe or suspension damage that I walked away. That said, you know better than anyone else what you're willing to tolerate.

Personally, I hate dealers and have only ever bought private party. Dealers are better at and have the tools/network to hide damage. Then they hide behind the fact that they were not the owners and didn't know about damage to absolve themselves of it. You also don't get a gauge of the person that owned it before you and how they treated the car. For a 13+ year old car, judging the owner can tell you a lot about the car.
