Arrow Lost my only set of keys.....

Long story short, I lost my keys while I was moving into my new place. I flipped that place upside down looking for the damned things, but they just didn't show. I'm 100% sure no one stole em if that helps my case. I've looked all over for my spare set, but that was also unsuccessful.

My friends dad works at the dealer so he may possibly be able to get me a discount on the keys, but I've seen some blank S2000 key sets on ebay + the keyfob for 40 shipped.

What's the best choice of action here?
Will I have to have my car towed to the dealer?
How much will programming the new key to the car cost? (I can program the key fob on my own)

EDIT: The keys are the car are now 2hrs apart, until school starts that is.

Sorry to hear that, I feel for you. Had the same thing happened to my Accord.

Anyway. All you need to do is to bring some kind of document that you own the car. You might want to check with them as to what you need to do be for you tow you car there.

On the far side, if you dropped your keys outside and are afraid that someone might have your key, then you will need to get new sets of keys and get the transmitter recoded. This can cost a pretty penny.

If you know for sure that no one have access to your keys, then, you might just wanna get replacement. A while back, someone from here mentioned the S key with chip cost about $180. Then someone else said they got a spare key for $35. You might want to call several places to get the best price. Beside cutting the key, they will also have to reprogram the chip.

As for the fob, you can get one for $40-100. That will also need reprogammed.
You can try this http://www.bassoctopus.com/s2kuk/S2000alarm.pdf

That's all the info I have. Hope you can resolve this soon, keep us posted.

Normally, you would need a key that the car already knows to introduce a new key to the system. The "introduction" is a simple process that you can do yourself (if you have one of the original keys).

There may be a work around for not having a key the system already recognises.

Talk to Honda and at least two or three locksmiths that specalize in automotive. Hopefully, one of the locksmiths will know if there is a work around not having a key. Honda will have a solution, but I would hazzard a quess that it will not be cheap...

The key changed in '04 so you have the new style key. I have seen them on ebay but do not know who, besides Honda, would be able to cut it. Honda may even decline to cut an aftermarket key. If you go that route, check befor you buy...

Good luck and what ever you do, let us know...

I called a few dealers today and got key quotes from $36-$177. Luckily the local dealer is the one that quoted me $36 for a key and $65 for labor/programming.

However, I'll have to tow the car to the said dealer. I confirmed this with North American Honda and 2 dealers, so that's gonna cost me another pretty penny. I know the spare keys are somewhere in the house so I'll search for those today. If I can't find em, i'll be ordering a set of OEM blanks and a keyfob on eBay for $40.

Thanks for all the replies so far. I'll keep you guys updated as things come. Any additional help would be greatly appreciated!

goudy charge 50 to cut the key and reprogram, i overhear the service rep when i was in line, not sure it's a discounted deal for customer or not tho'

the key needs to be cutted and program'ed to the chip, the key fob you can do it yourself in 5 minute

I found my spares!!

Too bad the main key doesn't look as cool as the other one I had. They both do the same thing, but the original key just looks so much better. Too bad it costs $100+ vs. the $18.50 of the plain black key.

Now to a new question. Can I get the key I lost disabled? I know it will still open the doors to my car and all, but as long as it doesn't start the engine I'm fine with it.

is there anything more on the method.
i assume the old key chip would not work after the "introduction"
does the new key has to be cut first?
what if you want to change the pendant code too?

I cant seem to find the key itroduction sequence

My hard drive crashed about a year ago and alot of info I was accumulating is gone.

I do know that the keyless entry reciever can store up to three different transmitter codes (the pendant). If a fourth code is introduced, the code that was first input will be erased.

I don't think that the transmitters code can be changed. Just new ones added.

The transmitter information is in the Honda service manual. I will try to post it up later. It is easy, but involves several repetitious, time sensitive, steps.
