Has anyone experienced low rev (engine almost dying) at stop after several v-tec stretches? I experienced this coming home from work today. My car only has about 1800 miles! What may be the cause of the low idle? My temp. and oil were normal. By the time I got home (6 miles later) the rev was back to normal.

HELP!!!

wanabe,

This is actually the second time it has happened. The first time the car only had about 100 miles and has not happened until now. The idle dropped and stayed there until the light changed.

I tried doing a search on the problem and came across some threads but with no luck as to possible causes.

I made the mistake of vtec'ing the car on my first test drive. I hadn't read the manual at that point and saw that the RPM range went way up to 8900 before redlining. So I wasn't going to buy the car until I knew how it accelerated.... The dealer was with me and he didn't seem to realize it was dangerous for the engine either.

It seems to be ok now though...no harm done as far as I can tell. It doesn't use oil. But I wouldn't recommend it.

I have had the low idle numerous times, but it is always when I have the A/C compressor turned on. I was just wondering if you may have been using your A/C at the time? Just a thought.

I had it happen around with 1200 miles on it. I didn't VTEC at the time, at least I don't recall VTECing. But I came up on traffic and when I stopped, the revs just dropped and it almost died on me. It did it about 4 times in traffic and after it sat for about an hour, it has not done it since. I have about 1800 miles on it now. But I still don't know what caused it. Could it be something in the fuel injectors and the computer adjusting the fuel for higher RPM runs and then not adjusting back fast enough for lower RPMs? I don't know?

I've heard that fuel additives or water in the fuel can cause problems. Perhaps the rough idle occurred when some water or concentrated additives were burnt from the tank. Do you know if you were low on fuel?
