My 5000 mile S2K has been having problems - described below:-
http://www.s2000online.com/forums/showthre...p?threadid=3372

I wonder if anyone else has checked their oil level to find their dipstick completely clean? No Oil on the stick at all?

I would like to know if this is common or whether my car really has no oil in it?

Joe, some S2000's burn oil at a tremendous rate in the first 8000miles, at 3000 miles I had to put about 1.5 litres in, and another 0.5 over the next 2000 (some track time ).

Nothing in the next 3500 miles but had a Dino oil change at 4,000 miles and switched to synthetic @ 8,000 miles.

If the car is over a quart low of oil, it could register as a completely dry dipstick. You will only know by how much is needed to fill to capacity. FlyingPig on this board did get to almost no oil in his car at one time, I seem to recall.

Joe,

Just down the road in Killingworth is where I live.

Did the track time down at the Bedford Autodrome, invite and paid for by Honda UK, ripped up Integra TypeRs (on the straights at least, the instructors had them on Avon race rubber) and blew away Accord TypeR's anywhere on the track. Fantastic day out, 15 S2000's 3 Accord TypeR's and four instructor Integra TypeR's, free food, drinks and gifts galore.

Toon, Toon black & white army.

Either way, fill it up and check often!!!!
The consumption dropped drastically after the first oil change @ 5,000 miles.
At 10,000 miles, I switched to synthetic and the oil has decided to stay put.

The word from Honda NA is that if you rev the engine to 9000 rpm it will use a pretty fair amount of oil. This is not a car you can drive for 7000 miles and not check the oil. And according to their warranty data base, the only engine failures were attributed to lack of oil or over revving, but the data base couldn't tell him which cylinder had a failure.

I have just put 3 yes THREE litres of oil into my s2k and she is still not reading as full on the dipstick. i reckon that i was running on about 30% oil after 5000 miles.

and honda told me that "they never burn oil"

i advise you all to go and check your engine now and regularly.

Honda told me it is normal to burn up to 1 quart per 1000 miles.
That's way too much.....and some people have lost more than that!!!
Check your oil!

I design aircraft flight controls for commercial airliners (i.e. 737,747,757,777). We use a process called Criss-Cross lapping on pistons and cylinders. This is the same process the auto industry uses on cylinders. If you "load" the system before the rings have seated properly you will get a certain amount of "blow-by" past the ring and piston interface. Over time the piston rings will eventually seat properly. Cars abused when they're young will "blow-by" until the rings seat properly.Proper break in in essential. Honda says 600 miles, others swear by 1,000. I went to 600 and now VTEC often.I check my oil every fill-up and have yet to need any at 750 miles.
