I was told by my dealer not to worry about running in and to just 'have fun'.

i have had heaps of fun and now i need heaps of oil. hope i dont have to part with heaps of money to replace a heap of an engine because of the advice.

This is the same process the auto industry uses on cylinders. If you "load" the system before the rings have seated properly you will get a certain amount of "blow-by" past the ring and piston interface. Over time the piston rings will eventually seat properly. Cars abused when they're young will "blow-by" until the rings seat properly.Proper break in in essential. Honda says 600 miles, others swear by 1,000. I went to 600 and now VTEC often.I check my oil every fill-up and have yet to need any at 750 miles.
I waited until 634 miles before going past 5500rpm, but after than I seem to hit 9000 at least once every time I take her out! And after the first 1000 miles my oil hasn't budged at all, but then when I checked it again after the another 1000 miles I was a quart low!! So don't let no oil usage after the first 1k miles fool you into not continually checking...

Joe,

So, did you ever take her out again after puting the oil in? What were the results. I don't seem to see if you've posted them. In the last thread, you said you were going to take her out.

I was lucky and didn't have oil problems. Even after chaning my oil, the dipstick alsways indicates at the halfway point. I don't think you'll ever see the dipstick higher than that.

Mark

I took her to the garage today - had the oil and filter replaced, the plugs checked for signs of any damage and all was given a clean bill of health.

When i got home i checked again. the oil was showing just under half full. I drove the 20 miles home carefully. i am going out at the weekend to give it some testing :-)

BTW does anyone have any tricks for closing the bonnet as it does not shut easily on mine. do you drop from a height or close with a flat palm?

Glad your car checks out okay so far.
To close the bonnet, let it drop from sufficient height to allow latching. That is the method from the manual, I believe.

Correct I was talking about hydraulic actuators that control flight, not the engines. By the way there was great debate as to how much oil is in a Stook a while back. Don't know if it was resolved but my friend in Jappan emailed me last night with the following:

Oil Change: 5.1 US Quarts w/filter change
4.8 US Quarts without/filter change
5.9 US Quarts total system capacity.
Source of confusion: 5.1 In oil change and maintenance sections. 5.9 listed only in technical specifications for fluid capacity.

Variations in fill quantities have to due with angle of car at change and temperature/ viscosity of the oil. In short use 5 quarts then see where you are on the stick.
