i like the shape of the knob and have the knob sock also. i've looked on the inside of the knob and there looks like some extra depth could be drilled so the knob could sit lower. i'm already using it w/o the counterscrew. the possible problems would be getting the shift pattern to line up correctly and whether the stalk would accept the lowering. has anyone considered this?

not really. I just went ahead and ordered the Ti voodoo knob the other day - I like the way it feels since I do not grip the shift knob like a pistol.

I agree that the shift knob is too high and would be interestred if anyone knows how to easily lower it.

I didn't bother going that route.

I just ordered the Team Voodoo Spun Aluminum knob for $25.00. It is lower, and has a greater circumference than the stock knob, so it registers better in your hand.

I've also changed over to the Voodoo shift knob. What a difference! However, you could either go the route you suggested, or possibly remove some of the length from the shift lever itself. If you're worried about lining up the shift pattern, use low tensile strength Loctite on the threads (I used the green variety). The tube is color coded according to breaking strength. Voodoo actually recommend the use of Loctite to prevent the knob rotating as you shift (the locking nut is not used with this knob).
