Default Lowering top in cold weather

How cold can it be out and it still be safe to lower or raise the top.
I think the manual just says cold temps.

Anyone with an experience damaging the top?
If so how cold was it.

thanks

My 2005 manual says both "freezing weather" and "ice or snow". It has been hovering around 40 here (Poughkeepsie, NY) and I have noticed that the mechanism is working harder and the top does not fold up as well if it gets any lower than 40. I would be afraid to lower the top much below 40.

On the other hand, driving topless at 40 degrees is a blast. I just run the heater with the vents pointed at my hands, and am perfectly comfortable. I do get some odd looks though...

crank the car, let it heat up, point all vents to the roof or just up in general for about 6-8 min. Then lower the top. This allows the canvas to heat up and be more stretchable. Thus allowing it to not have to work as hard to go down all the way!! That is what I do......

I seem to have a problem with the top folding all the way down in colder weather, it folds about 85-90% of the way, not the last little bit, unless I put it up, then down again. weird? does anyone else have this problem?

It was 39 here the othe night, and the top had no problems going down. Of course, I sat and warmed up for a few minutes before lowering the top.
39 = Brisk!
