Could you lower your car yourself? Ok so this is a NOOB question yes, but for a while my car has been totally stock and all. After saving up, I thought it was time for a change. Also I want to know if it illegal to lower your car. I don't want to lower it too much, maybe like 1-2 inches.

I personally would not know attempt installing lowering springs myself.

I was privy to watch a DIY of Buddy club coilovers and they were fairly simple to install. It was the amount of "muscle" required to turn the crescent wrench and the markings of how far to lower were the key.

as per legality, it matters your local law enforcement's discretion.

1 to 2 inches on an s2000 is quite fine imo

I took my car to a shop to be lowered, and no it is not illegal unless you go very low to the point where it is rubbing.

Anyways I have Neuspeed springs, Front 1.25" / Rear 1.25"

- in CA its illegal if the center of your headlights are lower than 22" (or 24")...
- also illegal if the body is lower than the rim of the wheel (not the tire)
- not sure how its illegal if you're rubbing? its your car, if you want to rub all over... like me.

Dut has it right, if your body panels are lower than the lower portion of your rim it is illegal. Also you can do it yourself, the s2k is probally the easiest car to change springs on just be sure to have the right tools and the right amount of muscle to tighten/loosen some of the bolts.

Me and a friend of mine did it ourselves in about 4 hrs. start to finish. If there's a Pep Boys nearby, they have a tool loaner program where you can borrow the spring compressors. BTW, the left rear was a PITA.

I'd like to know, do you need to have a front and rear alinement done after lowering the car?

A lot of people say it's a piece of cake but to be completely honest w/ ya it all depends on your skill level. Lowering a car is fairly simple but there are a large percentage of people that have no business fooling around with a car. I had a friend once who tried to lower his car and when i arrived on the scene to check on his progress, i could tell he was doing everything wrong. The man took off almost every bolt except the one he was suppose to remove. So if u dont know what ur doing and have no idea how to use a spring compressor to disassemble the stock shock assembly dont try b/c u might hurt urself. Otherwise if ur a fairly competent individual then give it a go, it'll be a good learning experience. And as someone stated before, "make sure u have the right tools."
