luxury sport
when people talk about how porsche or bmw has luxury over the s2000, what exactly is that referring to? is it just more leather, more insulation, heated seats, gps? most of these things can be added to the S for not much. would it then be luxury, also?
It's too sporty, and too small to be luxury.!!
Would you consider a Lotus Elise,a luxury car.?
I don't consider Porsche a luxury car either;more along the lines of BMW,Jag,Lexus,Benz,Aston ...etc...

Luxury because their build quality is known to be top of the line. The leather seats, stitching, feel of the cabin is just in the upper class category. Sure we can buy $2000 leather Recaro Topline Sport seats and do an "Overhaul" quality upgrade, but you can also do that to a Civic. The build quality is still on a different level. I suppose it's just what the manufacturers had in mind when designing the car. A Bugatti Veyron is a sports car, but built with luxury accomidations. A McLaren F1 sure wouldn't be a luxury sports car. Our cars are classed by many magazines as a mid-luxury sports car. I think that's an acceptable classification.
seeing as honda has a better build quality rating than bmw and others, the idea of luxury quality is hard to put one's finger on. granted, you can feel softer leather and carpets. then one of you mentioned cabin space.
in any case, im having trouble understanding what is luxury and what isn't. where is the line drawn? this started in part because i felt more comfortable sitting in the S than other "luxury" cars. other people talk about getting a porsche to replace the S because it is more luxurious and the distinction was unclear to me.

Honda has superb build quality, and the S2000 is the top notch
The European High-lines (Lexus, Infiniti, and Acura aren't as obvious) have more refinement in their cars. You can simply look at the leather to know that cow had a nice ass
There is rarely any skimpling on stitching: stitches nicely compliment the rest of the interior whether it is simple or a different color to make things stand out more.
When people talk about luxury in the High-lines they're talking about quality - not Nav systems or Bluetooth.
The S2000 is a tough car to compare because the the S is very refined. You need to hop out of a different Honda, Toyota, Ford, Chevy, etc and hop into a Porsche or Bimmer (actually the last generation of Bimmers felt seem more refined to me).

Yes, that. Not too sure about these BMW and Mercedes instrument panels though. It's very logical, with square shaped buttons placed like a keyboard, but it's very dull. Some Japanese car interiors overdo it with the flashiness, but I still prefer the innovation.

There is also the interior noise level to consider.
And, for convertibles, how the top stows (ours goes down just fine, but it doesn't really stow very well) and its headliner (which we don't have one of).
Call it "appointments," in which the devil is definitely in the details. The S is luxurious by Miata standards, but not by those of high-end convertibles. HPH
