Default maintenance light?

hi im a bit confused abbout the maintenance time.
am i suppose to get a oil change every 7000 miles?

the maintenance light is starting to flash but im only at 6500 miles.
and i changed oil at about 3800.

im confused at what the owners manual says so can someone please enlighten me.

does everyone just take it back to where they bought the car for maintenance?

changing the oil will not reset the indicator, it is strickly operated by how many miles you have driven since the last time you reset the indicator.

It will come on every 7,500 miles! (Or start to blink around 5,900 miles) And either (you) or the Tech should reset the light!
It's "mileage" driven counter! So, if you change oil early yourself, just reset it every 7,500 miles!

i reset it every 7500 when i do the service. This way I know that its been 7500 since the last time an inspected more thoroughly. i do my own oil changes every 3k or so, but sometimees I will do a more thorough inspection. The light just keeps me on the ball.
