Default Maint Req'D Light at 24.6K miles

Anyone know why this light would come on? I did an oil change at 23.2k miles and its too early for the 30k tune up.

It comes on a certain number of miles after the last reset. It does not know what service is required, just that the timer has expired.

Reset the light by holding the trip button down while turning the ignition on. Hold the trip button until the light goes out (~10 seconds or so)

Was the light on when you did the oil change a thousand miles ago?

On the MY02, the light is just a milage counter...it doesn't actually know when you change the oil unless you reset it. You should reset it each time you change the oil even if it isn't on.

You might want to check and see if your car came with an Owner's Manual. If it did... read it. Also, the FAQ at the top of this forum has lots of good info for a new owner. I recommend also referencing that when you have a question.

I dont think that it is just on a timer, I think that it also has to do with your driving habits (more aggressive driving, it will come on sooner )

I dont think
It's mileage based. I believe later models have a more complex calculation, but as stated in the manual earlier models (such as his '02) are simply based on the number of miles driven since the last time the light was reset.
