Default Maintenance on low mileage S2000

Hello everyone.

I searched the forums a bit but really didn't find any relevant posts.

I have a 2003 S2000 with just over 30,000 miles.

Should I be looking into replacing suspension parts? Or doing some engine maintenance?

Just wondering if the years have an impact on parts. I follow maintenance schedules to a tee for every car I've ever owned, but the S2000 is an exception since I don't drive it as often - I have an RSX Type-S that I drive in bad weather.

What do you guys think?

I would start with the fluids. Tranny, diff etc.

I agree with Sfedai0.
If you are concerned ask the dealer to look it over. Suspension parts should be in fine shape since the miles are low.
Congrats on the car.

I would focus on fluids that potentially haven't been changed.

- Engine oil if over a year old
- Transmission (Honda MTF) and Diff fluids if over a couple years old.
- Clutch and brake fluid.
- I would check the coolant level (just add Honda coolant if needed), but wouldn't change it.

Other than that, I'd just go through the owner's manual and inspect the few other things it recommends you should inspect on some frequency.

I agree with 00CivicSi above. I take my car to the dealer once a year for an oil change regardless of mileage. I have to say I haven't changed MTF, diff fluid, or clutch/brake fluid yet. But since my dealer has a history of suggesting maintenance at intervals that are notably shorter than those cited in the owner's manual, I'm sure they'd let me know if they thought it was even close to needing replacement.

As for engine maintenance, the only thing I can think of is a valve adjustment (but I think that's suggested for 40k IIRC) and maybe a new air filter. For suspension, I'd take a look underneath and check the bushings and boots, but even at 30k they should be fine. Nothing else comes to mind at the moment. HTH

I have an '03 with 34k miles on it. As the others have said, if you don't know the history, I would replace all the fluids except coolant. (Honda recommends first change at 10 years.) Check the tires for any cracking. Drive and enjoy!

I have a 2002 with 36K miles. I've changed the transmission oil once at 30K and differential fluid every 10K miles. I'm on the original serpentine belt and it's showing sign of cracking and needs replaced.

Has the brake fluid ever been flushed and replaced? Brake fluid on a high performance car should be changed at least every 24 months as it absorbs moisture.

I have an MY06 w/24k mi, and I am the second owner. Since I did not know the maintenance history with regards to the tranny and diff fluids, I changed them the other day. Big difference, especially in terms of smooth shifting. I'm sure they were the original fluids.

I would check the cabin air filter too. They get filthy quick.

Thanks for all the advice everyone. Changing the brake fluid out is something I haven't considered. I'll also need to check the tranny fluid.

Excellent responses everyone. Thank you!
