Default Major slipping in rain?

My my2000 has Pirelli P7000 SuperSport tires yet I still slip all over the place in the rain. I thought these tires were buff enough to handle anything but snow, yet I am definitely still timid whenever the road is even remotely wet. I am a car novice trying to learn, but is this just the way it's going to be with a rear wheel drive car, or am I not using optimum tires? Thanks.

i had p7000 on my miata... they were plenty tire for that car... 2300 lbs and 140 hp. i'm not sure that they're a mtach for the bigger size and power of the S.

overall the tire was decent, given that its a medium-high performance tire, but i never feel hugely confident with a rear-drive car in slippery conditions.

since you live here in the mid-atlantic, and obviously use the car everyday.. i would suggest, given some budgetary flexibility, to use the S-02's during the 8 months of decent weather we have, and get some true ugly weather tires for dec through mar.

what size tires F/R are on your S?

Hmmm? more info would help as you did mention you are a novice. It does take time to learn rwd cars esp. in the wet.

accelerating ? decelerating ? car is lowered ? size of tires ? are all issues

You should ALWAYS be timid when the road is wet. Have a blast when the roads are dry, but back off if conditions are less than idea....

Catfish's rule of thumb:

If the top's up because the weather is either too cold or too wet, then drive it like a civic. That's driven by your grandmother.

Saud - might be the temps stateside vs in Kuwait? I dunno, how often do you get below 40 F? I did notice on my SO2's that there was a definate 'tail wiggle' for lack of a better term when hitting VTEC WOT between 1st and 2nd gear when cold outside.

My engine is red and silver and makes a loud noise when I push the third pedal!
