Making it More Comfortable, Seats and Stuff
Hey guys. I'm in the middle of looking for a replacement for my Miata and Vette. Trying to find something that will satisfy my need for both. I've narrowed it down to 350Z, WRX, RX-8, and the S2k. The 350Z has some quality issues and is currently kind of low on the list.
So a couple of days ago I drove a s2k for the first time ever. I noticed a couple of problems. I'm 6'1" and my right knee was against the left side of the center console. The seat apparently would not move back any further so that was it. Also the side supports of the seat back were a bit narrow and noticeably pushing in on the sides of my back. Can those be adjusted?
Thanks.
Edit. The car handled great. It was a new on so I couldn't open it up to get the power out of it but it still felt very responsive to the throttle. The apparent build quality of the car was absolutely amazing. The chassis and other parts felt rock solid on a slightly rough road that we drove it on. The shifter also felt great. I can easily see why people love this car so much.

Concerning the car itself: damn straight.
Concerning the seats: there are some rather invasive means of changing the seats. Do a search for "seat lowering" etc. I read about one guy who removed some of the foam from the side supports with good results.
From what I've felt and read, either you like it or you don't. It's tight. I'm 6'1" 190, so I understand what you mean. Personally I enjoy the cockpit-like comfort. If the damn steering wheel would tilt I'd be perfect...

I am 6'1" also, about 210 lbs - I don't even have my seat back all the way and I am fairly long-legged. I love the snug fit, and the steering wheel has never posed a problem for me. And, believe it or not, I am much more comfortable on long trips in my S than I am in other cars...
To answer your questions, the S2000's seats can only be adjusted forward/back and the seat back can be leaned back, that's about it.

This car is one of the few in America that isn't designed for the "standard American body"... This means that if you are large - in any direction - it's going to be a tight fit. Headroom, however, is more than ample. I have lots of clearance at 6' tall, though I do sit above the roll hoops, unfortunately.

Duh! Open the top and of course you have more than ample amount of head room. But, question is can you see the stop light without either sticking your head above the top of windshield or bend your head down to look through the windshield?!

I gave up trying to see any overhead stoplights. In some cases you can watch the lights on the intersecting street, wait for them to turn red, wait a few moments then drive...and at night you can tell the change of red to green by the reflection on the dash. Sad, eh? To see overhead lights I really have to crank my neck and my jaw usually drops open and I feel like an idiot. It's to the point where I don't even pull up to intersections. In fact, I'm thinking about not stopping at all, just driving and smiling and honking the horn a lot.
I'm 6' 0" and noticed the same thing about the leg. I got the car last summer and wearing shorts, it hurt my knee rubbing against the carpet.
The first mod was a console cover from Ricks. Problem solved. I don't have a problem with the seat. It really does fit really well.
