It is possible to drop the stock seat 1" or so. I'm 6'3" and yes my right knee hits the steering wheel, but other than that I fit just fine. By dropping the seat my knee problem should be cleared up. These a great thread concerning dropping the seat with detailed instructions and pics. Do a search and you'll find it. Cheers.

Oh and by the way, the seats in MY'03 are already an inch lower than other years.

Frankly, I don't know how some of you taller guys do it. I'm 5'11" (160lbs.) and sometimes, I feel cramped. I've gotten my seat lowered which helps a lot. But all you guys 6' and taller, I'm dumfounded.

retrodog,

you must have a first generation Miata. Before I bought the S, I seriously considered getting a new second generation Miata (10th anniversary edition). But when I sat in the second generation Miata I could not get comfortable, limited by both head and leg room. BTW, I am 6'1" also but 180 lbs so I don't have much problem with the side supports. By compariosn, the S is MUCH more roomier. I have plenty of head room with either the soft top up or with the hard top. Leg room is fine also. I drive with the seat all the way back but I could probably drive it fine with the seat one or two clicks forward.

While shopping for a new Miata, I noticed a used first generation Miata and I sat in it just to test it out. It was much roomier than the new Miatas. If the second generation Miata had that type of interior room I would be driving a Miata now.

I find I actually have more room in the S than I did in my '99 SI. If I strech my legs out past the pedals I can actually completely straighten my legs out. True there's less lateral room, but I just love the fit! Cheers.

Are you absolutely sure about this? If so, what did they change?

Apparently the mounting bracket on the '03 seats has been up so the seats now sit an inch lower. I was told this by someone one this forum, and no, I didn't believe it at first, but sitting in a MY'00 and MY '03 there is a noticeable difference. Regardless, I still plan on dropping the seats another inch or so and removing some foam to get a bit lower. I've also heard that if the two hangers behind the seats are removed (the ones intended for the storage pockets) the seats can be forced back another inch. They apparently rub a bit more but some felt should alleviate that. Cheers.

I'm 6' 1" and weigh in at 230 lbs. I also fit in this car. No problems at all for me regarding leg room. My only "gripe" is I usually like to rest my arm on top of the door, and that isn't gonna happen in this car, it's too high.

It fits me well, but my 5'3" wife who weighs half as much as I do complains the car is too small. Go figure.
