Default me = newb

hey all,

i'm newbie danny from dallas, tx. i'm a 23 y/o currently working full time & going to school. i've been browsing the forums for a bit now & i just wanted to introduce myself.

i currently don't own a s2k. i have a 99 civic ex coupe, slightly modified with subtle looks & your very basic i/h/e setup. i am however planning to get myself into a my05 berlina or silvertone s2k as a weekend car... (i guess you can call it as sort of an anniversary present to myself for getting out of a mentally/financially draining 3 1/2-year relationship).... most likely a little bit later in the year.

i've got a question though... when i do go to the dealership to pick one up, i plan on paying in cash for the car. i figure i'd have the upper hand with a wad of cash to seal the deal with. what would be a good $ amount to throw at them for the s2k? i just don't want to tell them an amount too low & have them laugh at me or an amount too high & get screwed when i could have gotten a much better deal under the circumstances. i've heard people get deals as low as $29,200 (though they didn't specify what the circumstances were as far as if they financed, trade-in, etc...)

what says you? thanks & happy revving!

Don't be so optimistic with cash. Dealers prefer financing nowadays b/c they get kickbacks and bonuses from the finance companies. I've heard deals around $30,495. That's what I paid for mine last year and it seems to be a pretty good deal. Of course, it depends on the dealer and area and demand in that area. Good luck with the purchase!

Cash means nothing to them. The only thing that will lure them with cash, is the oppurtunity for them to make you take the car with you that day. Send a few emails out to some dealers around you to get the best price.

well, then i guess the "i've got $30k cash... take it or leave it" approach that people have been telling me to do ain't gonna work.
