Media Bias

I think C&D is pretty much the only magazine that really understands the car - writers at the other mags are all showing their age and their preference for softer cars as they age.

Car and Driver has always had a soft spot for the S2k and always has. Heck, one of their editors races one (and they did an article about it.) In fact, it has become somewhat of a benchmark car for them, I've seen it referenced several times recently, which is not to shabby for a 7 year old car.
R&T isn't quite as good, but I don't think they hold a negative opinion of the S2k. I'm pretty sure one of their writers (Sam Mitani) really likes it, and it did well in all its comparisons. Of course R&T isn't as Honda friendly as C and D
. And I don't even really know why I still receive MT... I guess old habits die hard.

I'm not sure what they're saying now, but I don't recall anything recent that was particularly negative.
To me...it almost seems like the press thinks the car was discontinued in 2004. I can't remember seeing any press on the S2K after that model year.
Maybe we should remind them that Honda is still manufacturing the S2000 and we
them for it!!!

in 6th gear at 70 there is still enough torque to pull around a semi with gusto.. sure it won't throw you back in your seat but thats why they invented heel toe downshifts.
As for the mags, most of the reviews I have read have been extremely favorable. At the same time I feel as most of the other posters in this thread, what someone else thinks about this car has no bearing on my enjoyment of it. I have owned this car for almost 3 years now and I am smiling everytime I pull it out of the garage. Hows that for a review...

undriveable??
maybe if those people at C&D, MT, R&T go on a subway diet and loose about 65 lbs they will have a different opinion about the S2000..
this is exactly why i dont ever read american based car mags.
watch this clip.. this is what the British have to say about the S2k

www.windingroad.com is a web magazine that is asking for suggestions re: the most underrated car on the road. I'd suggest emailing them.

exactly which media are you talking about? Car & Driver had the S on their 10 best in 2004, and maybe other years.
"measure the S2000 vs. the more expensive, $40,000 Audi TT Roadster , and you find the Honda's shortcomings a bit more glaring, since the TT manages both low-speed fun and reasonably earnest performance"
some are interesting:
"But in the Honda S2000, because that torque peak is so high...with each upshift from redline you feel the back tires lose their bite, a possibly scary sensation if you feel it with the car pointed even five degrees off center"
and some are outright wrong:
"The cargo space in this car is minuscule, less than the capacity of almost any other car made, including a Corvette or a Porsche 911. "
(911 has even smaller trunk than S)
But then, S somehow made their list of Best 2006 Convertibles, so it's not all bad.

Sorry .. meant double clutch..
I believe the term you're looking for is "rev match/downshift"
Heel/toe is used when you brake and revmatch/downshift at the same time. Double clutching is pretty useless in a car with modern synchros. The only time I double clutch is when I downshift into 1st gear.
