MG Racing Camera mount DONE Pics here<-------
I was just saying that since it mounts to the secret compartment, it will have to shake. Doesn't matter what u make it out of. My carbon fiber piece was about 10 layers thick and slightly curved (for strength and to comform to the compartment), so it was rock solid but couldn't compensate for the shaking of the compartment.
Just wanted to voice my small opinion for ppl that might be expecting too much. When I watch my tapes, especially the track ones where wind also contributes to the shaking of the camera, it makes me a little sick after awhile because of the shaking. I mainly just use that tape so ppl can see "What it's like" on the track, rather than an actual tool to improve my skills. I was thinking that a more stable base would provide a steadier video so I can concentrate on my lines through the corner, friend's expression in his rear view mirror as I blow past him...junk like that.
For the record, I was using the smallest JVC mini-DV camcorder, so it's light and small obviously. Whether or not that is a positive or negative, I can only speculate.
Oh yeah, and the wind noise (I even put scotch tape on the mic) overrides the engine noise, so in my next design, I want to try to be able to allow the camera to hear the engine.
Oh, and one last thing, my design does have one important difference. I drilled a 3rd hole in the compartment between the existing two holes so that I could put a bolt through the compartment, the mount, and straight into the camera with some big, fat washers at both ends. This made the camera more stable with a lower center of gravity with respect to the mount than a previous design that was more like the one shown in this tread. Even when I added this however, the video was still fairly shaky (more than I wanted).
