i think heard it takes around 20 or more sec. compared to 5 for the S. i honestly believe that many people, most people in my area dont even use their convertible top because they think of it as a hassle to wait...
I think I can spare 20 seconds out of my life each time I need to use the top. The time it takes to put it up or down is not what determines whether or not I put it up or down.

I would get a Hard top S2000 even if it added a mere 40 more lbs. The piece of mind alone would be worth the weight. Yes our top goes down in 5 seconds but it looks like crap without the tonneau cover. You have to get outside pop the trunk and wrestle with the tonneau for at least a minute. So in reality our tops take at least 60 seconds to raise lower the top AND cover it properly.

We would probably benifit aero wise with a hard top roof. Might even squeeze out some better MPG and top end acceleration.

If it had some of the same features.

12 second retract, goes behind the seat not in the trunk, adds only 80lbs.

I might bite.

You guys can't be serious about saying no to the retractable hardtop just because it adds 80 pounds.

But you'd also have to subtract the weight of the current soft-top, so it would come out to be surprisingly close.
Good point....I'd like to see it made.

The retractable hardtop miata is nice, I've been driven around in one haha. It does cut down a bit on wind and outside noise obviously. It is quite slow however, mostly due to the complexity of the device. The top folds in quite a few pieces and does tuck behind the seats without taking up trunk space which is nice. The top looks pretty good in person but is a little short and stubby at the end, I dunno, hard to explain. It's a nice feature though that I wouldn't mind on the S.

having had my top cut for some loser to take the stock radio, I would be interested in this. I was without my car for 3 weeks of last summer.
