I've been a Miata driver for 7 years, the S2000 is going to have to be a great car to live up to the good experiences I've had in the Miata. So far it's looking like I'm not going to be disappointed!
Most of your points are very accurate. There are different engineering compromises in each of these cars.
I have to disagree about the top latches - I thought the S2000 latches were much easier and intuitive to use. You can unlatch both latches at the same time without looking, and then latch them without moving the top at all. With the Miata you had to push the button at one end, pull up the other end, move the top back a bit, re-latch them, then put the top down.
My Miata got much better mileage, but I haven't stopped driving like a clown yet in the S2000. You are going to be pleasantly surprised when you get into VTEC, the car really wakes up.

I just completed a trip from southern oregon to eastern Idaho, round trip about 1800 miles with an average of 33 mpg. Mostly freeway at 65-75 mph with the cruise control. My average mpg under 'normal' driving conditions is around 24 mpg. I was pretty happy with the freeway mpg.

The S2000 is kind of like the Miata's big brother, not as quick or nimble, but more powerful and gets more girls
