what does "better" mean? "bang-for-the-buck" better? that must be what the fokes over at miata.net were talking about. I searched for "s2000" and i got about 80 posts about it. I read as much as i could before getting too sick of the put-downs i see.

one particular quote was that our cars handle as well as a camaro or mustang. (i dont think they meant good on that statement) Dont ask me, i didnt write that. A 0-60 claim of 6.8 seconds out from somewhere, and those guys believed it! Or the regular torque-less issue that i see all the time when someone dislikes this car blows out of proportion to prove their point. Yeah compare to say....supras or M3s i agree. I dont know what they were comparing s2000's to but everybody claims these cars are torqueless, it's fine and...enough trouble for me.

Personally i feel more "manly" driving an s2000 down the road, I wasn't into convertibles when i bought this car....convertible was just a plus.

if they like miatas so much, they should keep driving them.

we like our s2000 very much, so we'll keep driving our s2000s and ignore what they think.

can you imagine replacing those Miata's with s2000s?? it'd be like seing well...as much miatas as you see but instead, s2000s! im actually glad there are different cars for different people. I would hate to see too many s2000's driving around. I can count up to 6 s2000's around here ant thats plenty already.

Who cares. We have S2000s, they don't.

Agree...

I use to own a second generation Miata...the S2000 is much more of a sports car in my opinion. I think every one is a bit bias...I mean what do you expect from the Miata forum? People here are partial towards the S as well.

Having said that tho...a Miata is a great bargin. But then again, so is our S2000. To me an S2000 is like a Miata with balls.

Car and Drive expressed difficulty in trying to figure out how to justify the competition for a shootout with the S2000. They ultimately decided to compare against the BMW, Porche, and Mercedes, even though the price difference was unusually significant for a comparo (oh, the S2000 came out on top, I might add).

They concluded that, though the Miata was closer in price to the S2000 than the BMW, Boxter, and Mercedes, the S2000 would "...eat the Miata for lunch and not even bother to spit out the bones". Their words, not mine.

On my drive from Maryland to Florida this past Fall, I saw two S2000's and twelve Miatas. Ten of the Miatas were driven by women. Just an observation.

Let the Miata fans enjoy their Miata and the S2000 fans enjoy their S2000.

Just a though - a lot of the MX5/Miata v S2000 may have grown out of the MX5/Miata v CRXgen3 / DelSol rivalry and arguments I so fondly remember from a few years back when I bought my CRX/Sol.

Does anyone remember the VIC 20 v ZX81, Commodore 64 v Sinclair Spectrum and Amiga v Atari ST rantings from when they were at school ? RAM, processor speed and games base discussions went on and on ...
Of course I never stooped to such depths and remained impartial.

P.S. Amigas were miles better !!

I have heard the same thing about the S2000 from the Corvette/Camaro/Mustang crowd.

I would not own a Miata, but I think very highly of them. It is the car that opened the door for the resurgence of the roadster and it is quite a little piece of engineering in it's own right. IMHO there probably wouldn't be an S2000 if not for the popularity of the Miata.
