Miatas are better than s2000s?
I have loved the roadster all my life. From S800 to Sunbeam Tiger; from MGB's and Sptifires, from Fiat (yes even fiat) to Alfa (drool). There was a time they were, for all intents and purposes, GONE from North America.
When I saw my first Miata (I was on Florence St. in London Ontario) I was in love. There, I said it. I loved the Miata. That's because the roadster was back. A real, bonefide roadster sports car. I decided then that when I "arrived" I would buy myself a Miata.
When I finally "arrived" (I'm a bit of a late starter
) I bought an S2000. Why? They were hands down better. So what about the Miata? They suffer by comparison but they got NA excited about roadsters again. So I don't compare.
Glad I'm driving an S2000 though.

Though I can't say the Miata is a better car, but it is a car that can produce as much fun as a S, plus it'll leave the owner with 10,000 USD in the bank account. Never underestimate the "fun factor," and more importantly 10Gs
My ex-girlfriend owned a Miata, so I frequented Miata.net long before I discovered this site. I find it odd that so many people there bash the S2000. Though I have seen some immature posts here bashing the Miata and calling it a "chick car," it seems most people here respect the Miata. There is a lot of S2000 bashing going on over there. Interesting. One guy over there who drove it said it was very disappointing...he would rank it behing the Miata AND the MR2 spyder...LOL.
I drove my ex's Miata a lot. It was a great car...an absolute blast to drive. I have nothing bad to say about it...except that it was often out-accelerated by minivans. But being as objective as I possibly can, I can say it doesn't compare at all to the experience of driving the S2000. The difference is night and day. I still have a lot of respect for the Miata, but the S2000 wasn't designed to be a competitor for it. I think that job belongs to the MR2.

I agree Station. It is fun and the cars in my earlier post are in the range of 80 - 120 Hp. No big deal in terms of power (Miata at ~140Hp) but FUN. C'mon, driving a Miata is fun, just not as fast.
If you bash the Miata... have you ever driven one?
I have and it's just fun.

I have searched the Miata forum...and not one post contained immature "observations"...at the very worst "I prefer the Miata" hmm....
The current issue of R&T has an illustration of the propsed new Miata, due out in a few years. It looks quite good, far better than the new Z. It's very gracefully styled, which is more than you can say for most of the clumsy designs coming out today, of which the new Z is perhaps the most clumsy.
I live in SoCal. I'm one of those "girls" that drive a miata. Actually I have two now, since I totaled one this summer. I've ridden pax at Streets of Willow with an excellent stook driver. I was surprised at how similar the Honda was to the Miata. I'd say they are comparable in almost every way except price. For me the fun of having Miata's is that I am not concerned about driving them on the track, unlike some of the Boxsters, Audi TT's and stooks that I pass. I am not beating the car, I'm beating the drivers. They can't seem to get over the idea that they are driving $30K+ cars
I rarely hear Miata owners bash the Spyder or the Stook. Those that do, are not really performance people and have their heads up their *ss anyway.

My casual observations are not consistent with yours.
I've seen fewer S2000 owners bashing Miatas than the other way around.
Look above. There are a few negative comments about Miatas but most are either laisez-faire or complimentary. The negatuve ones can usually be read as a little defensive... not unreasonable considering the S2000 bashing that goes on, at the Miata site... go ahead and look. Do a search (there) on S2000... you won't find many compliments.
Anyway I'm on record (above) as having a lot of fun in a Miata and grateful to their having brought the roadster craze back the NA.
