I know exactly what you're saying Stocky. My point is, I know you're not just the average driver, and I like to think of myself as above average. Isn't it a bummer knowing that if you were in another car (EVO) you'd be faster? And are you already deciding the EVO wouldn't be more fun because you don't want it to be, or is that because you've driven both and that's how you feel. I like to think I love the S2000 for several reasons, fun factor being #1 right now. If the Evo rivaled the S2000's fun factor but at a much faster pace, it seems appealing for some reason.

Also, in your opinion, can you lap a track at the same pace in an S2000 as in an EVO, both in totally stock trim.

Mostly depends on the track but basically yes.

I've owned an Evo 8 for 7 months and it is very fast from teh beginnign but the engine characteristique is not my style.
It is like driving a turbo diesel car.
I dont like engines which give their power mid range and feel heavy in the high revs.

Also has a high cente rof gravity which you feel and even lowering it doesnt change much the feeling of riding a boat.

Understeer is also a big issue.

Its fun but very different fun.

It took me all my balls to do the same time on my "hometrack" (some curvy road trough the backcountry) to do teh same time in the stock S than I did in the Evo even though I had 5 years of S experience already.

SO the Evo is build in order that also monkey drivers can be fast!

Don't sell the S. You'll miss it. Add a used Honda Element for $10k. Space for dogs and hauling stuff. AWD when you need it.

Do you really want to put the dogs in your brand new Scooby or Evo? Buy the junker. I have a Fit as the S's stable mate. It is kind of refreshing to not give a &^@% about where or how you park it, what you put in it etc. etc. etc. On top of that, you drive the junker for miles through wet and dirt, and it comes home clean. The S, Evo or Sti will go round the corner to the mall and you have to wash it when you get back for some reason.

Z06 or nothing.

just kidding. sti's/evo's are nice cars and a lot more practical than an s2000 or vette

i got 13 mpg around town in my evo

i get about 23 in my s2k

the evo had loads of torque, slightly tuned 292 awhp/300 awtq at 22psi with intake, exhaust and tune

it was so modable, but i had no need for the power or the way it ran through gas

it was a fun car (it also had the best stock seats on any car available - rercaros), but i only kept it for 3 months, i've had the s2k for almost 2 months now and i'm still loving every minute of it (insurance and maintence on the evo is crazy, i pay half as much on the s2k, and i dont need new brakes every 6-8k miles) (i'm 22 and ticket and accident free)

the evo wanted to go at all hours, it wasnt really good around town

i may seem silly, but the s2k is great, its slow down low, and it doesnt attract a ton of attention (with stock exhaust) the trunk is plenty big for me, but again you have the dog issue

id say keep the s2k and get something else for when you need it

civic or accord?

possibly recent wrx wagon?

those can be tuned and look sleeper but awesome with dark tints

the sti? well its a fantastic car, well built looks good, (not a fan of the seats), but i never found it exciting to drive

oh, and the 5th gear on the evo sucks stock, its geared so high that there's no pull at all (never driven a MR) also i never was a huge fan of the evo's exhaust note, the sti/ or even wrx with aftermarket sounds amazing (non-equal length headers)

goodluck

Are you concerned about safety?

I was shopping for an upgrade to my GTI. I narrowed it down to the STI or Evo. I REALLY wanted the Evo. I liked the way it drove, in all aspects, better than the STI. I loved the seats. I hated the STI seats.

I did a lot of research, and kept coming back to the horrible side crash test ratings of the Evo. I ride with my wife, nieces, nephews and other family members, and dogs on a regular basis.

I searched and talked to a lot of people about it, and I could not find any justification for such poor side impact results. Then I saw this:

http://forums.evolutionm.net/showthr...=278459&page=2

If there had been a passenger in the front passenger seat of that car, they wouldn't have had a chance. On page one of the above link, there is another link that shows the car itself and hw it held up.

After seeing that, and others like it, I had to rule the Evo out of consideration. The STI is one of the safest cars on the road, but I just couldn't get comfortable in its seats, so I decided to hold off until the new models come out and start over.

P.S. A lot of people will defend the Evo's safety by saying that many Evo drivers/passengers walk away from bad wrecks with only minor injuries, and that the car stands up well to real-world crashes. That may very well be true, and I hope it is. I just couldn't take the chance with my family. If there was a way I could ensure that I would be the only person riding in the car, and I only had to worry about my own safety and not that of others, I would more than likely assume the risk and buy the Evo IX in an instant...
