Might sell the S2K for an EVO/STI
STI has some problems so does Evo.
But if you like a good motor, unbelievably nice suspension, get the Evo.
if you want nicer interior and good transmission, get the STI.
Evo has more leg room on the back, and easier to mod.
Before anyone buy a STI, ask any owner how long it took them to change the spark plugs on their car and you'll realize that Evo's just a better and more practical car.
Besides, on Evo, the shifter is more precise, and seats are a lot better than STI.
Also, Evo drives like a FWD AWD while STI drives like a RWD AWD. So expect to have more wheel spin on STI (which means more tire wear) and on AWD, you have to change all 4 tires if one gets corded, no matter how much tread is left on the front ones.
Also, EVo after market parts are cheaper, and it's easier to work on.
Putting a 2.5 liter engine on a 2.0 liter chasis is never a good idea in my opinion for STI.
but that's just me. One thing that made me get the Evo was the shifter. The STI had just about the most vague shifter ever. I still can't figure out if I'm in 1st or 3rd or 6th when I'm driving a STI.
but both cars will serve your purpose. I think Evo's got bigger and taller trunk as well. and I've never had motor problems or transmission problems on my Evo. Like everything in this world, you just have to take care of it. Change fluids often if you track it or drive it hard, and make sure you don't dog it every time you get in.
Just washing your car every week doesn't make internals last long. what good is a paint job if you can't drive the car?

I only read the OP, but it sounds to me like you just need a practical DD. Just look for a good used car that will fit your needs like a bigger back seat or four doors. Heck, a truck might fit the bill. I have found that whenever I buy a house, I ALWAYS seem to need a truck for something.
the only input I have is that I too have 2 boxers - both males, both 90lbs+
why do you think i made sure the wife bought a Jeep?
seriously, i feel your pain. Finding a replacement for the S isnt an easy task.

That said, I can't afford 2 cars right now. I'd rather live with one $30K car than 2 junk cars. I'm really considering the EVO as of right now. I just feel I'm running out of time for an IX.
[QUOTE=trinis2001,Jul 9 2007, 06:15 PM] Do you really want to put the dogs in your brand new Scooby or Evo? Buy the junker. I have a Fit as the S's stable mate. It is kind of refreshing to not give a &^@% about where or how you park it, what you put in it etc. etc. etc.

Thanks and as someone that has met you personally, I repect your advice. I'm sorry to hear what happened to you at the Dragon, but am very happy your okay.
As far as my life after the S2000, I needed a 4 door too (have a 10month old son) as well as something that would fulfill my need for speed. I ended up picking up <gasp> a 300SRT8. For the $$$ you cant beat it with 400+hp stock. Im not ruling out another S again in my future, it seems like everyone always comes back, but for now im enjoying what i have!
Good luck with whatever you decide, i know it wont be easy!
I recently bought a 07 WRX to cart around the dogs and daily drive/ drive when the S is broken and in the winter and I have to say after driving that car for a few months then getting back into the S its like a different world and you really appreciate how awesome the S is. I'm not sure about the STi trans the but the WRX trans is complete crap the rest of the car is fine for a daily driver. I also am not a fan of the power delivery it feels fast around 3-4.5k rpms then just seems to fall on its face. It is also much easier to drive on the track the the S but not as fun. I think of it as the WRX is a big club and the S is like a sharp sword. Personally I would try and keep the S and get a beater, you will keep the miles down on the S and really appreciate how awesome of a car it is.
My 05 Evo was mildly modded. It made 323awhp and 300awtq I averaged 21.5 mpg. Stock the car has very little power up top, but after a tune and a turbo back that all changed. The 05's make about 250-260 stock so with $1500 I picked up about 70 hp that is called bang for the buck. The 06's make even more power because of the MIVEC.
The car was fun but after 2 years with it I got tired and sold it just recently. Also take into consideration that even though the car is not expensive the maintence is and Mitsu will do anything they can to void your "best backed cars in America" warranty.
