gas is still moderately priced. it is definitely no where near a record.
Before you jump to disagree, remember that ANY COMPARISON WITH A PREVIOUS TIME MUST BE ADJUSTED FOR INFLATION. A record would be close to $4.

Man you guys hardly drive your car. 
I have an 01 with 58,900 miles. I racked up 50,000 in just under 3 years and almost 10,000 since I have been back to California which has been 11 months.
