Since it has been reported that the new redline will be 8000 rpm, you don't know how true your statement really is.

Well just for the hell of it I ran some numbers in a spreadsheet to estimate the acceleration differences between a the current and '04 cars. Of course to simplify the calculations, I made a bunch of assumptions which I won't bore everyone with. But the new gearing, redline, and estimating an average +10 ft/lb on the low rev. cam and +5 ft/lb on the high rev. cam was taken into account. It boiled down to this:

1) '04 on a 0-60 mph street start is around 0.5 sec faster less one extra shift (say 0.2 - 0.5 sec).
2) '04 on a 0-100 mph street start is around 0.5 sec faster less one extra shift (say 0.2 - 0.5 sec).
3) At low speed (gear 1-4) of the '04 will feel like a '00-'03 with a final gear swap between the 4.44 and 4.7 gear ratios. Gear 5 and 6 will feel more or less the same.

So, for non-racers the '04 will feel faster, but might not turn out to be faster because of the extra shifting. Think of it as a '00-'03 with a final gear swap without increasing the highway speed revs (i.e. same NVH as old car). Some people might feel slower or be disappointed that the "VTEC" surge is smaller.

Autocrossers will probably not like the lower redline and new gear ratios will likely require using the next higher gear in most courses. So, instead of basically 2 gears to worry about it turns out to be 3 gears. Smaller "VTEC" surge will be better for mid-corner control.

Road racers will find a mixed bag. Pulling out of slow speed coners will be better. Smaller "VTEC" surge will be better for mid-corner control. Above 100 mph the '04 will have less top end. The different shift points will favour or hinder the car depending on the track.

Oh, yeah my above comments assume a very good driver. The '04 will be easier to drive fast, without pushing the engine since there will be less of a penalty from "falling out of VTEC".

How do you know track speed without even seeing/driving the 04?

Are you psychic? David Copperfield perhaps?

Speculate on which will be faster all you want.

Tell me the new curb weight and then I'll answer that questions.

Something tells me it's going to weight around 200 lbs more. (so much for .2L and 8% more torque)

According the the 2004 specifications scanned today by SlickyV and by the 2002-3 comparison, the '04 car weighs 2,835 lbs. compared to 2,810 lbs of the '02-'03. A 25lb. difference.

kvn,
I think it's impossilble to make a blanket statement like the Z is faster than the S2000 or the S2000 is faster than the Z. The cars are so close that it really depends more on driver skill and the situation (drag, sweeping roads, road racing track, autocross, etc.). Hell, the type of tires is probably the single most important factor...which has very little to do with the merits of either car. That being said its harder to get the best out of a S2000 than a 350Z, the new revision should help that.

brushman,
Why do you think the S2200 is going to be 200 lbs more? From the leaked info I don't see that much added weight. Bigger wheels, reinforced diff and tranny don't make +200 lbs IMHO.

I have a strategy for service that has served me well - I make friends in the back, and keep my voice down when frustrated. The first service, I bring in a few cartons of Marlboros with a note that says "Help Yourself" - next time, some Krispy Kremes. Pretty soon, when they see my car, they know that it is the one from that guy "who is alright".
