Default Missing Keys...

Hypothetically speaking...

Say one were to lock his only key with keyless remote in the truck. The car is locked with the top up but the compartment with the truck release is unlocked. What would be the best way to get the car open?

I'm guessing it's going to be over $100 and a trip to a Honda dealer with my title?

Call a tow truck or a locksmith. They can open your car pretty easily. You could also try it yourself with a wire coat hanger through the side of your window and the rubber seal.

Can Honda not cut a new key with the VIN number and proof that I own it? I understand it has to have a chip to actually start the car...but I just need to get to the set of good keys in the trunk...

just call you cell phone provider and add road side insurance. it is generally $3/month. then use the service to get a lock smith to get your keys out. problem solved.

That may not be a good idea. A coat hanger could damage the rubber seal.

Ok. I don't really want to try anything with a coat hanger and I would be willing to pay some money to get a key made to keep a lock smith from messing with my car too. SO...can Honda cut a key with only the VIN number and of course proof the car is mine? I don't care if they can program the chip or not as I have a good set of keys in the trunk...

I had 2 extra keys cut at ace hardware just in case of this situation. my brother has one and the other stays at home on the key hook.
sure, it doesnt have the imobilizer chip in it. but i dont need those keys to start the car. just to open the door so i can get inside where my real key is at.

i guess one option is to dial 1-800-MR-BRICK and send him through the window. and start searching for used windows in the FS forum.

good luck
