I lost a motor in my ap1 unexpectedly. Shit happens whatever car you own.
Okay, okay. What happened? "It was a dark and stormy night.........."

Actually I completely forgot I hydrolocked my S2000 back in July 2003. It had 19,000 miles on it at the time. My AEM CAI got a gulp of water in it (long story) and that was it. Put motor back to stock had it flat bedded back to dealership and Honda gave me a new engine. Had the car back in 4 days over 4th of July weekend. Thumps up to Honda.

So you broke your car and then lied to Honda to get them to replace the motor.

Over my car buying lifetime dating back to 1970 I typically grew bored with a car or perhaps something else caught my eye every 2 years or so. But the S2000 was just so damn good I found it difficult to say good bye. Then in August of 2012 I was out for a drive with my wife and came across this 2005 C6 Corvette. Gleaming silver paint red leather interior, garish 19" chrome wheels, headers, exhaust, a funky cam. I'd been seduced like it was a cheap hooker. I don't even like domestic cars. Anyways we parted ways after 8 months and I'm now driving a 2002 Porsche Carrera Targa. I love this car don't get me wrong but I suffer from this internet phobia that my motor is going to detonate at any moment. With the Honda there was none of that. I could drive the crap out of that car and if it did break(which it never did)repairs would be a reasonable expense. Now that I'm approaching retirement age I find myself thinking perhaps there should be another S2000 in my future.
This is the reason I can't justify a Cayman. The potential IMS failure stresses me out too much. I sold my Ducati 748 (which was a perfect bike, btw) because a number of them were having issues with the plating coming off of the cams and turning the motor into useless junk. Maybe my ass is just clinched too tight? Not sure, but that stuff stresses me out.

I've had my S2000 over 10 years and it's been flawless and inexpensive to own. At this point, it's worth so little that it doesn't make sense to sell it because I can't get something that is as much fun and as reliable for the money. Also, I really love it and don't want to sell it.

Scamming Honda with your own foolish behaviour is what makes it so difficult for those that come after with legit issues to get taken care of. Shame on you.

The Honda reliability and ease of repair is one of the key features of the S that me want one in the first place, and hasn't disappointed now that I have one. Having owned a few German cars (Audi), I am familiar with that ownership experience, and its not fun. So complex eveything expensive. The last timing belt maintenance cost $2.5k, and the last repair I did myself was the aux coolant pump, an electric pump located, wait for it, in the v UNDER the intake manifold.

Like anyone on here would not have done the same thing. Talk about a double standard. Who gives a crap if he did it, it was 11 years ago.

I worked for Honda and the crap they would try and hide from people just to deny warranty. It's all a game.

No, not everyone would try to fraud Honda. Some people of character would own up to the consequences of their own actions.

“The true test of a man’s character is what he does when no one is watching.”

“Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are.”
― John Wooden

I am not perfect by any means, but these have helped me keep perspective over time.
