Mobil 1 VS Red Line VS Royal Purple
Just curious
Mobil 1 is 5 dollars a quart(roughly, including tax and gas/time to go get it)
You can get Redline for 7.75 a quart w/ free shipping
Royal Purple is 5.92 a quart Including shipping
Just found RP for 4.56 including shipping
of these 3, which is the best? And is 1 dollar(or now 44 cents less) for RP and 3 dollars for RL worth the extra money, or should I just use Mobil 1 because of its easy availabilty?
I only have 2500 mi on my car, so Im 5000 away from switching to synthetic, but if RP or RL are worth the extra money, I can always order it now and store in the Garage
Thanks

I bought the Royal Purple a few months ago - mainly because of the buzz from Porsche owners about how good it was.
I'm not sure if there's any measurable improvement in performance, although the engine has been quite happy with it for the past 3,000 miles. That said, when I've used up my remaining 6 quarts of RP, I'll probably go back to using Mobil or Castrol - mainly because both kinds are more readily available.

Formula 1 engines (Mercs) use Mobil 1. OK, they must be using the 50W or something like that, but there must be a reason for it (besides being provided for free by Exxon, of course
). Those engines rev up to 18,500 rpm per minute, and if they use Synthetic Mobil 1, that's exactly what I am going to use.

They use "hand blended" Mobil 1, which we can't buy. This year some of the F1 engines are supposed to be able to hit 20,000 rpm.

Not that it's a big deal but the cheaper line of RP uses a dino base. The pricier line (8-9 bux/qt) is full synth.

They found 1-2% HP gain. Using 0w10 racing oil. The lower viscosity is probably the reason for the extra power. I think that this oil is supposed to be for drag racing or qualifying.
