Mobil One 10w30 question...
I just picked up some Mobil 1 10w30 . But when i got home on closer inspection i noticed that it said "Higher Milage Vehicle Formula". Now my AP1 only has 40,000km on it (not exactly High Mileage) My question it does Mobil 1 Make a 'plain' 10w30? Or does it even matter?
It's a 'blonde' question i know.

Ive often wondered the same thing and my only conclusion is that the viscosity (high rating) is reached at a lower temperture which might prevent or lessen the oil that may be forced up past the rings. This would cut down on oil being burned in older or high milage vehicles. This assumption seems logical to me but still could be incorrect.
If this is incorrect, then someone please update us.
Edit: Another assumption regarding using this type of oil in low milage or new engines.- IMO, in a fully warmed up auto operating at normal tempertures, there should be no difference. If there is a difference and a downside, it would be at start-up and operation of a relatively cold engine. Another point of view might be that this would be inconsequential and no harm using either.

High milage oils typically contain "seal conditioners" and more anti-wear additives.
On BITOG those seal conditioners also were described as "seal swellers" and it was mentioned they are also added to all "normal" engine oils, maybe a little less then in High Milage oils.

SAE viscosity qualifications are all determined at the same temperatures.
That doesn't mean all xxW-30 oils are the same.
The 30 means it has a viscosity (at 100C) between 9.3 and 12.5 cSt.
(according to SAE J300)
There could be (and IS) a lot of difference between xxW-30 oils in their operating temp viscosities, and there are "thin" and "thick" xxW-30 oils.
The high milage oils may be on he "thick" side but never out of the SAE J300 spec otherwise they would not be called a xxW-30 oil

IMO you're fine to use it to keep the level up.
That is what I'm reading on BITOG too, but most recommend the "normal" 10W-30 because it is cheaper

Chris,
Are you sure you're looking at Mobil 1, and not Mobil's non-synthetic oil?
I haven't seen Mobil 1 for high mileage cars.
I *have* seen Mobil 1 with "extended protection" (which I think is just a rebadging so that WalMart can charge more for it).
