Mobil 1 is a pretty restrictive oil filter. I wouldn't use it and the oversized isn't much of an improvement on the flow.

FormerH22a4, I have read that the Mobil 1, STP, and some Bosch model are essentially the same design, but with different materials. You are suggesting that a different, higher-flow design is more appropriate. What is the best examples for the S2K of such a filter? Also, why is filer flow important, since there must be a valve that opens when the filter flow is constricted?

It may just be my luck with my particular filter being out of spec or something but I think I'll stick with the normal sized one from now on. If my friend hadn't noticed the puddle of oil, I'd probably be in much worse shape right now.

Daniel, there's another possibility... Did you ensure that the rubber ring from the previous filter wasn't stuck onto the metal before you screwed on the new one?

I had an MI 105 oversized oil filter back out on me at the track. I thought just tightening it back up would fix the problem, but the O ring deformed and the filter kept leaking. This cost me one track session, while I borrowed a car and headed off to the local auto parts store for a new filter and a quart of oil.

No more Mobil filters for me. I've moved on to stock size K&Ns. According to the literature, K&N's have the same filtering capacity but with more flow. K&N's are a coupla bucks cheaper here, and they have that cool nut on the end for removal.

Here's a thread that may be of interest https://www.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.php?...?threadid=48839

I have the M-105 on the car right now. I've had it on for the past 500 miles or so and no problems at all. This thread does have me a bit worried though. I've always used this link for my S2000 oil filter information:

K&N oil filters are known for their flow rates and have decent filtering efficiency. The more restrictive the filter is the more of a pressure drop you will see. Also the Mobil 1 filters will clog up faster because they filter at the 10 micron range so if you run with dino oil then you should change the oil sooner if you are using a Mobil 1 filter.

If you want to see a comparision between flow rates of different filters, read this thread.

Thanks a bunch for that thread. I'm almost inclined to go change out the filter only on the car and throw a different one on.
