Default Modded S2000, what sort of power to expect?

Hi Guys

Took my car to be dyno'd and worked on today - what sort of power should I expect from at the fly wheel and wheels with the following mods:
K&N FIPK
Megan Racing Decat
Skunk2 MegaPower exhaust

Also running a ACT Street Clutch kit with lightened flywheel.

Running standard fuel and standard 17" wheels.

Many Thanks.

Not much at all I'd imagine as those cars are more or less maxed out from the factory.

It should look pretty much like a stock S does.

You may gain a few hp between 8500-9000 rpms as the stock exhaust can choke off the top end a little.

But functionally, from 1000-8500 rpms... pretty much nada.

Although you'll be faster on the street because of the weight reduction in your wallet....

I thought a test pipe + FIPK + exhaust should net somewhere around 10whp? If you don't have a baseline dyno though you'd never really know. On your MY00, a tune-up (ie spark plugs and such if they're due) and a tune would probably restore/make as much power as adding bolt-ons.

The bigger thing to me than the (small) gains is that I love the sound of my CAI. I got my money's worth with just that as it makes me enjoy the car more.

241.384hp at fly wheel - the tuner said their dyno is VERY conservative, and I can add around 5%.

Out of interest - I didn't do a dyno before the mods - what would it have been? I know specs say around 237kw - but thats probably under ideal conditions.

BTW - dyno done at the coast.

There was quite a big jump after VTEC for around 1000RPM

Quick question - considering I'm new to this whole dyno thing - how do they do a dyno at the flywheel and not at the wheels?

They just run an equation based on expected loss of power from the Flywheel to the wheels. Most cars usually loose 20% give or take with a manual transmission, don't know the exact number for the s2k. But given that expected flywheel hp on the s2k is 240hp, and most dyno at the wheels around 190-210, that's probably pretty close.

Anyway, if you picked up 5-10hp I'd be surprised. It would be nice to have a before after dyno chart to look at, as total hp doesn't tell the whole tale. You could very well have picked up (or lost) midrange or top end power but max hp stayed the same. Also no 2 cars will have the same power numbers, some will dyno low and some high. It's never exact out of the factory, more like a good estimate

Also I've never seen 2 dyno's calibrated the same, so you could have major variances with different dynos. Some are heartbreakers and others are ego strokers (if you want your ego stroked go see Church's magic dyno )

Oh well.

I don't feel much difference with bolt ons. Like that guy said these cars are maxed out from the factory. However the car is much more fun to drive now

I hope to put down a little over 200rwhp lol
