so i keep seeing all of these threads about "how much power can i make with blah blah blah"
my question is, i bought teh s2k thinking that the motor was pretty tapped for power as far as bolt ons or what i like to call "non invasive" (cylinder head stays on) mods.
has anyone found the real bottle neck in this motor? in my old prelude it was the intake manifold. port that, leave the head alone, get a 60mm TB and you could find something in the vacinity of 15-22hp at the wheels...it wasnt magical it was just a bottleneck in the factory design.
where is the f22c's? i see people with I/E cracking off a 13.6's at the track and that to me is bananas.
also, most are using a tubular style intake, fujita, K&N ect. are there any real differences between say the fujita, aem and the little black ebay brand thats jsut a tube with a filter in the same place?
any thoughts from those on a little tighter budget?

The AEM v2 is a good intake for some power, if you can deal with having your filter that low(trust me it sucks when your car sucks in water). I say your best bet for a good amount of power is a tune with a APEX AFC. Expect gains are around +9hp from what I've seen...even more with the usual bolt ons. I bought the ebay black tube for my Ap1 and I hacked the factory airbox to make it fit inside, it gave the car a little boost but not much at all. I also plan on adding in a ebay "snorkel" for the airbox for a little more cold air.

There's a huge thread on NA mods. The thread starter has gone through quite a few configs. It's a lot to read but there's a ton of info for you in there. Hope it helps!

the oem exhaust flows pretty good with a test pipe, the price of a good exhaust is around 1k...not worth it if your on a budget IMO. The weight savings is another story
This topic has been covered many times so I guess a good search is in order or just read the link above heh

so to go along with that,
the tuing thing, was that only at wide open throttle or was it partial throttle gains?
i have a VAFC right now but its not installed and i was going to sell it.

I don't think you are likely to see +9whp on an ap2 with a vafc. On an early ap1 you can see those kinds of gains with a vafc since they run very rich.
A friend is tuning a Greddy eManage Ultimate on an AP2 this weekend. I'll try to remember to post here what gains he was able to realize. But I would expect the eMU to do quite well on any s2k.

Unless you feel like going nuts with either a FI or ITB setup, the cost/hp ratio on this car sucks. For bolt on, figure on about $100 per horsepower, with diminishing returns the more you add to it. The motor is pretty close to maxed in the AP2, but more can always be found, especially in the tuning of it. An AEM EMS or other standalone will give you the biggest gains, but it's expensive and tuning isn't cheap eather.
