Just installed the beeper. Install took around 45 minutes but it was pretty easy. The product worked great. I put the warning at 8800rpm since 8900 was a bit high and I kept on hitting the rev limiter in 1 gear(I have 4.77 gears installed). The only problem I saw with the product is the beeper itself. I installed it at the location where it specified but with the top down, I couldn't hear it at all.. I also have an intake which doesn't help the cause in trying to hear the beeper. Is there another beeper I could by which is louder than this one. I read other places you could install the beeper to hear it better but I belive unless the beeper is behind the headrest, you still won't hear it as good in any other place in the cars. Anyone else have this problem. Thanks
I ran the wire across to the driver's side and installed the beeper on the transmission tunnel next to my right knee. The hook side of velcro will stick to the carpet there.
I mounted the Shift Beeper on the drivers side on the A/C Duct under the steering column using "High Strength" velcro I got from Radio Shack. There has been some concern in earlier threads that mounting it there would not work because the duct can get pretty hot when using the heater. It's been there for almost a year with no problems.
I used a Piezo Beeper I got from Jameco.com that was rated at 95 dB [at 30 cm/12 VDC]. I've got pretty bad hearing but have no trouble hearing the buzzer with the radio on and with the top either up or down. I don't know the dB rating of the buzzer sent with the Modifry kit but it seems to be at least as loud as the one I got from Jameco.
As a side note I used the beeper sent with the Modifry kit and a SPDT Momentary switch for the High RPM [switch position down ] and Valet [switch position up] features instead of tieing them into the cruise control system.
I mounted mine on top of the steering column between the wheel and the gage cluster. (Bought a black buzzer from Radio Shack so it doesn't look too bad.) I can hear it fine, top down with a full face helmet on.
