Modify or sell?
For me I have never had a stock car. Every car I have ever owned has been modded to the max.
Some say its a waste of money, but its my money.
I like the car to have its own identity, or at least my verison of it.

Is the car still fun? If not, get another car. Who cares if it doesn't have more horsepower than other cars. Are you drag racing at every light? Do you feel the need to be on top of everyone else? I can guarantee if you mod the S2K, you will eventually wish you had gotten something else.

Well, it's comes to a point where I need to decide if I want to modify my S or buy something else. I love the car, but stock it just too slow for today's and my own standards. I have a little extra money and need to decide.
Should I...
Sell and buy a used C5 Z06, an all-round performer out of the box...
Or my other option is to max out the S2000. To me the handling is perfect, so I wouldn't touch the suspension/wheels. Besides, I like a more conservative/sleeper look. I'm considering Comptech's Supercharger, a 4.56 diff, headers/exhaust.
Of course, I know this is an S2000 board, so there is some bias. But I know many of you out there have had some similar thoughts. The S is awesome in everyway, except it can use more power in my opinion.
BTW, I never race/drag/autocross. This is my daily driver car, and reliability is huge and if I modify the S I would want solid mods that I can worry less about.
PS- would the above modified S2000 be able to at least hang/be close to a stock C5 Z06 in terms of speed?
thanks!!

The s2k is : more intimate, more visceral, more like an old roadster of old, more reliable etc.
I mean I really understand your pain having had 12 cars in the last 11 years but I just am tired of the Vette comparisons with these small roadsters (I had a c5).
If you insist on getting out why not get an M roadster or a Boxter S?
Also, and I am serious because I have done it, put the car away for a week and drive something like a rent a car- like a Toyota Camry and then go back to your car.
BTW having modded many of my cars I am a big fan but in the end the issue was more deep seated then that. It may just be, like me, that we are never satisfied with what we have and are always looking for the next thing.
The fact is that with the turnover in car platforms the car that you bought 4 years ago that was so fast is now not as fast as the competition.
Look at the c5 z06- I mean who the hell needs more car than that but if you talk to the vette guys they are all depressed that they don't have the new supercar the c6 z06 and oh yeah a new corvette is coming out next year that will make the current z06 feel slow and inadequate. Imagine if you bought an 06 Boxster S and now have to hear that the 07 has the same engine as the Caymen and your 06 S is now inadequate after you paid 68K for a fully optioned one a year ago.
You really got me going here because I am going in the opposite direction as you are having owned and sold in the last 5 years a blown TT Supra, a c5 and an STI. I mean s2k crushing cars in terms of speed but got rid of them all and now looking to settle into an s2k and get on with my life. But that's me and you will do what you need to do. I feel for you though.

I couldn't disagree more.
I was in the same situation as the OP.
For me, the S2000 was becoming a casualty of the horsepower wars.
So I debated upgrading to a 996 911 at the time. Drove one, was nice but I enjoyed the handling responsiveness and the rawness of the S2000. I also like a convertible and the 996 911s were too darn heavy in cabrio form.
So I did the Comptech with AC and 4.57s.
Some have remarked: "That's the way it should have been made out of the factory."
I think it's important not to try and mod the car into something it's not. Making a Daewoo into a blingity-bling mobile is pimp-my-ride material. Putting $20k worth of stereo equipment into a $14k car is silly IMHO. But extending and expanding on the original intent of the car is ok in my book.

You start with some "light" mods and move onto "heavier" mods all whilst passing through unnecessary mods and eventually you can turn the car into something you never intended. A nightmare. Granted, this is hard to do with a Honda but it can be done all the same. By this, I mean that it is harder to make a Honda unreliable than say, a VW. I had a friend with a turbo VR6 Corrado. It was awesome as well as beautiful. It sat beatutifully at the shop at least 3 weeks out of the month. He enventually sold the car with less than 15k miles after having owned it 3 or 4 years.
I'll admit I don't know too much about the Comptech SC. From your post it really sounds like driveability and realiability are not affected. I think this is key. Because no matter how much you "love" your car, the minute it becomes a pain in the neck to drive or it it's in the shop all the time for repairs that were brought on by the mods you made, the car becomes undesireable. Exactly the opposite effect of what you were trying to reach.
What kid of HP numbers are supercharged S2k's achieving? Is the 4.57 gear ratio you selected a taller or shorter final drive than stock?
Comptech SC is widely regarded as the most reliable form of forced induction. There are members with >100k supercharged miles and no other significant engine work.
It doesn't produce the low-end power of a turbo or a roots supercharger (positive displacement), but is generally more hassle free.
HP gains are ~100hp at the crank, but this is where you want to look at dyno graphs. The hp and torque curves of a belt-driven supercharger are very peaky. So even though you make "340 peak hp" most are in the last 1-2k rpms. You want to keep the "area under the curve" in mind when comparing performance gains.
Stock gears (I think) are 4.10:1. 4.57s (or 4.56s) are a good match with the supercharger. You get through the "dead zone" of low rpms quicker with the shorter gearing.

Built engine and turbo if you want low end torque to go with your top-end power. Keep the S2k and and do this:
stroked with tsx crankshaft (2.4 liters)
arias 9:1 pistons
darton sleeves
steel rods
arp head bolts and studs
garrett gt28 turbo
14.5 psi boost
tial 38mm wastegate
hks super seq bov
lovefab "mini" manifold
2.5 inch downpipe
3 inch exhaust
rc engineering 720cc injectors
walbro 255 lph fuel pump
aem ems, uego, and fuel rails
to handle the power, add:
ssr professor sp1 rims, 17x9.5 and 17x8
wrapped in some sticky tires
with kw variant 3 coilovers (or ohlins if you got the $$$)
make sure you get a
clutch-type lsd (1.5 or 2 way) and an ACT clutch
Then have fun you rich bastard! (just kidding-i'm jealous)

I wouldn't even put that turbo on a stock motor, it spools fast, but dies up top. I don't know, I don't really agree with your mod list at all.
I would keep the S over a Z06 anyday. You are talking about two totally different cars. One being a GM automobile.
I own an 06 GTO right now which has the C6 corvette LS2 engine. It is an awsome engine and it does have a crap load of torque 400/400. But when it comes down to it I miss the import scene.
The people that own american muscule are a different crowd and I have not felt content since I bought the car, hints why I will be getting a new S in the next few weeks.
I know the GTO is not a Z06, but it has similar power and is make by the same manufactorer.
I guess it's personal preferrence, but I like the import scene and the reliability of a Honda.
Gas milage is also horrible on a 400hp V8. I get around 17 mpg. Don't believe the numbers they post for mpg they are so off.
I think a modified S would be more fun to drive anyway.
Now if you were talking about buying a C6 Z06 then that's another story.

In my opinion, you really have to decide if the S still sparks excitement for you. So, if you plan to mod, invision your power goals, map them out, and if affordadle, do it. I prefer to modify the car, that way it has a little bit of me (in a personal way) and be different from other S's.
A C5 Z06, is an awesome car, but I would not trade my S for it. Now, if it were a C6 Z06
.........then yes.
