modify the stock exhaust?
I was on the fwy the other day behind a nfr ap2 who looked like he had this done. It looked like he had made a cover for the empty hole in the bumper too... not shure if he's on here but maybe he will chime in?

This would be louder for the same reason ALL singles are louder- there is twice as much airflow going through the muffler! However, you're not going to see any HP gain. The reason a 70mm single will produce more HP is how free-flowing they are. The pipe is huge and there aren't any major bends (like the Y-bend in duals). A stock exhaust will still have the unneeded bends, the pipe is too small, and the mufflers are still ridiculous.
Just buy a pre-made exhaust, or have something custom bent. Too much trouble to cut the existing exhaust, as you would have to seal up the hole where the old pipe came out of the Y-pipe. Unless you are a skilled welder, this will leak and will sound like the car is farting up and down the highway.
Only way you will see any gains is with some larger piping. The stock I think is 2.5". Most of the larger singles are 3" to a 70mm tip, with minimal mufflers and resonators. You cant just say "because its a single, it will make more power."

Although ghetto as hell, your best bet would be to cut off the entire pipe behind the resonator and replace with 2.5 inch back to the OEM muffler. Probably wouldn't cost more than $60. The factory muffler only has a 1.75 inch S pipe in it and weighs about 20 lbs btw
You will maintain the quiet factory sound this way because Honda overengineered the sound baffling in the exhaust vs adding sound insulation to the frame. This is probably a better fix to get a slightly louder tone than taking out the resonator btw. Goodluck

Granted I'm coming from a Jeep world where a 4.0L engine is pumping through a single 2.25" pipe....but serisouly how is a 2.0L engine have a restrictive exhaust with dual 2.25" exhaust pipes?
I always thought that single exhausts created more power for two reasons...1st they weigh less and 2nd they offer a little more back pressure for the engine to gain some power. (Yes I said that...free flow produces less power than some back pressure)
