Yeap, shift at or near redline if you want to stay in Vtec. Thats where the power is at. You might want to check into J's Racing carbon fiber intake if you don't think you'll go with forced induction for a while. Search the forum a lot of people swear by them. 2500USD can hook you up with some pretty good stuff. I don't think you'd benefit from an ECU unless you had more mods to tune. Also maybe check into some rearend gears if you want more down low. Its considered most bang for your buck for the S2k if you don't mind giving up some top end speed (and highway gas mileage). Your right about it biting back be careful and get to know your car. I have no idea about the VQ he mentioned.

thanks fuelrush been a great help so far, when u say i need more mods to tune to buy a ecu, what mods would they be? just looking into a snorkle now and airfilter think there goin to be my main things and give it a oil diff an tranny oil change, any ideas on the mx5 ? mx5 bbr against a s2k? i have been in his bbr and it seems quick but its not 240bhp, and it is lowered which would give the feel of it bein more quicker, has any 1 had any experiences with a mx5 turbo (bbr)

Thanks for the tips! Haha. If you can steal the a car in Liverpool your old enough to drive it. I don't know what a boost valve is, it seemed to make my first car, the Fiesta SI faster. It didn't cost very much. I wanted to know if I can do the same thing with my S2k. I'm not very experienced with cars, and I'm looking for help. What is boost and VQ? Thanks for your responses!

a3lkx - welcome to S2Ki and I hope you find all your answers in this thread. Please, please, please take a little more pride in your native language. If you do not, us older guys are going to continue developing headaches trying to read your posts, eventually leading to your posts being ignored. Don't take this the wrong way - it is simply a helpful piece of advice for future S2Ki posting

For exhaust, go to S2k Exhaust Library for a nice selection of exhausts. There's a video link near the top that shows different exhausts on the s2k and what they sound like. Next you'll want to look at maybe a cold air intake if you don't want to spend too much. You can get springs for example; Eibach Pro Springs which are about $230. There's some other miscellaneous things you can get on Rick's Accessories like shortshifters and gears(4.56). Were you saying you wanted to know about changing the fluid from your diff and tranny? For the Differential, Xviper has an excellent write up at DIY Thread and DIY Thread for the Tranny.

i luv this forum all ready! so helpful and knoledgable

ps - do you know what VQ is ? and other mods to be done before i buy a ecu?

pps - pps i looked into gears for more resonsive ecceleration lower down the rmp range dont look a bad idea, just need to look into what ratio i need want (any recomendations) has any one had this done? does it make much of a difference on the responsive side?

I will say go for 4.77 gears to anyone who asks.

If you go with 4.56s then your goal probably is to increase your acceleration, and you'll miss out a little by trying to save a couple hundred rpm in top gear for gas consumption reasons.

Before you buy an ECU I'd say do the other mods that you plan like intake, exhaust, whatever then get it tuned with an appropriate ECU to accommodate those mods.

If you have a snorkel, yeah that's fine. If you get a duel exhaust you wont see a big difference in power, but most aftermarket exhausts are noticeably lighter than the stock one. So you could be losing anywhere from 15 to 50 lbs depending on what kind of exhaust you get. A single exhaust will almost always be louder, but you'll lose more weight and get more power. Yes, the Eibach Springs will lower your car by 1 inch. I think VQ means Vortech Supercharger...a kit you can probably grab for about $3200 used or around $4500 brand new. It would add roughly 100hp to your ride... Vortech Info as an example. If the s2k is your daily driver or you like to go on trips every once in a while, I would go with either 4.44 or 4.56 gears. 4.77 gear would be a little too much for highway driving. Mods to get before ECU would be Headers, Exhaust, Testpipe or highflow cat. If you were to get say 4.56 gears, you could also get the Apexi-VAFC and change when VTEC engages(only recommend doing it with gears). The gears will lower your top speed and increase acceleration...kinda like having an extra 15-20 lbs of torque at all times. Not sure whether you said you have a short shifter or not, your "?" at the end of the sentence kinda throws me off .
