You'll get mixed opinions on this for sure, but again I say 4.77 gears. I have em and love em.
DJSkrilla, why would could he only get a VAFC if he gets 4.56s? Get 4.77s and he'd be better working towards that goal of getting into VTEC faster.
I don't know why people say 4.77s are TOO much and 4.56s are just right. I do enough distance driving and I've yet to have any problem with the 4.77s in terms of engine speed or fuel consumption compared to stock. If I were to compare that to the 4.56s, the difference would be even further reduced in those areas, with the slight gain on performance (which is the goal here).
Sorry for turning this into a gears debate, but I'm trying to plan this guys car here

Just for the sake of things. A "VQ" stands for the incredibly popular Nissan engine, the VQ35DE. The "VQ" has 300hp and 268 ft-lbs of torque. It is used in almost every Nissan vehicle, i.e. the 350Z, Altima, Maxima...
i was about to say it cuz im surprised no one else did. haha.anyway, IMHO you don't really need to pump up the horsepower of the F20/F22 engines.. they are very capable and can hold their own. like many members say, the car isn't necessarily built for straight line speed. i would just opt for the car's balance and just have fun with it in the corners.
Well everyone has their opinion about gears, it's a never ending debate
. Some say 4.77 is the best and some say 4.56 is better, because you also have to shift more frequently. When it comes to acceleration you also have to factor in how fast you can shift. A good example is going from a dig to 60. with 4.77 gears you will have to shift into 3rd to make it to 60 while with 4.56 you'll (arguably) be right at 60 at the end of 2nd gear. To keep things simple...if you want the most acceleration possible go with 4.77. If you want a little less with a bit more cruising/mpg go with 4.56. If you want just a little more grunt/torque in the lower range with a small effect on cruising/mpg go with 4.44. Yes gears will throw off the speedo, but you can get the Yellow Box from Rick's which will fix it. The Apexi VAFC is a piggy back computer that mounts in your cab..see HERE. Lol it's ok MickeyCB...the more people helping the better. My advice is ofcourse my opinion, which is why this forum is a great place for info
Sorry A3lkx, I haven't experienced any turbo/supercharged Miata's.
