Your responses have been helpful. For one thing, I didn't know you could buy an extended warranty this long after the original purchase of the car.

I agree the supposed cause and effect of all of this is pretty sketchy. I'll go back to the dealer and have another discussion on explanation. My guess is they just don't know what caused the idle problem.

Here's the funny thing - no idle problem, at least not in the week since I picked it up. But we've had that much intermittance before...

However the exhaust pipe tips have blackened with soot and residue, much more than ever before. Buring oil?
