The perfect exhaust would be one that can adjust the sound.. I think Elistan's J's exhaust has the best loud aggressive sound but I only want that a small percentage of the time. My Mugen is a great compromise where I can hear the exhaust well but it is not overwhelming. The stock system is amazingly quiet and at times it fits the bill. Short of an adjustment I will stick with my Mugen system.

I've had my HKS almost a year and haven't been bothered by the boominess you're talking about.

I love my mugen exhaust. But one thing, that kind of bothered me today was when I took a look underneath and saw that the piping to the canisters were extremely small?? Kind of made me hope that mugen had reasons for allowing a 2.5 inch piping from the catback and then moving to a 1.xx.. towards the exit.

all in all, I think the mugen is just right for my tastes. Like mentioned before,,....noticeable yet bearable. and it sounds great when hitting VTEC..ohhhh mannnn...

I would be confident it is for performance purposes. I would think narrower piping at that point will keep the gas velocity up; velocity would have been cut in half or so if one pipe led to two of the same diameter. Lighter weight is also a side benefit.

I think one of the advantages of single piping exhaust is more consistent gas flow velocity, at a sacrifice to quietness. I think Mugen did a good job with its dual exhaust (and Honda) in terms of sound and performance.

What we need here is a chart. I love doing this stuff, but I don't have all the info, maybe you guys could help me out and I could make a chart for the FAQ. In a perfect world we'd have soundbites and db ratings, but weight, cost, and hp increases (claimed) would be a good start. Such a chart would save a lot of time and put a lot of questions to rest.

My first question is the stock exhaust weight, has anyone weighed it? I know it's about 50lbs, but does anyone know the exact weight?

Mingster, which exhausts do you sell, and what are their weights and claimed hp increases?

We could even add member notes on the chart, it will work if we try, it could be a great benefit. Any information you guys can come up with will be greatly appreciated, just make sure it's authentic, and the weights are exact. Thanks fellas...

Andrew

The Mugen design has a 2.5 pipe dumping into two 1.75 pipes which means there is no net reduction in outlet size from the cat to the tip.

I beleve the power increase is as good as any and the weight savings are better than any other dual.
