Mobil 1 claims that you don't need to flush or do anything special when switching to Mobil 1 from regular oil. Info's on their website.

i use amsoil in mine.. and when switchin to syn, i was told that u have to flush the junk inside the engine. because syn oil has lot of detergent to remove that "junk" if u dont flush it out first, it will clog up the oil filter.......
at least, thats what i was told.

This is a multi-level marketting ploy used by Amsoil distributors so they can make a bigger sale. That "junk" is more commonly known as sludge. Sludge comes from NOT changing your oil at a suitable interval when people are too cheap to do an oil change. Sludge will build up with the use of any kind of oil if you leave it in the engine long enough.

You can switch to synthetic and back again anytime you like without flushing anything. The only time you might want to be reluctant to switch to synthetic is if you have an oil leak. Small leaks become bigger leaks because of the flow characteristics of synthetic. It finds its way out if there is the smallest passageway to get out.

I think it was an Amsoil saleman's "OLD WIFE" who started this tale so her husband could make a bunch of money off gulliby people and then by her a new car.

Hehe, and where do you suppose that person got it from?

I made an enquiry with the local Amsoil dealer last year, just for my own curiosity. Coincidentally enough, the saleman wasn't home (yup, sold from "home") but his WIFE answered the phone. She told me this very same sales pitch. "You MUST buy the complete kit that includes the engine flushing product if you are a first time Amsoil user". I said, "No thanks. I'll just stick to Mobil 1 synthetic that I've been using for a very long time and I never did any silly flushing when I switched and my engine is clean as a can be." She then stopped me from hanging up by telling me that, "OK, well we'll sell you just the oil then." I have continued to use Mobil 1 since.

I don't deny that Amsoil makes fine products but their multi-level marketing model makes for sometimes over zealous sellers that tote the company line. (Note that I did NOT say they are a "Pyramid" scheme, so those who are into this product, don't get your tails up in a knot.) They market products that do work, but in most cases, are not necessary - such as their flushing kit. This may be useful in old neglected engines but then, you don't have to go to an Amsoil total package to get an engine flush. See your local Walmart if you have an old engine that's all sludged up.
