35+mpg - 325 miles on 9.25 gallons - still had 3 bars on the fuel gauge.
There's no secret to this, anyone can do it. Fill up the tank, get on a deserted freeway, and just drive without stopping. Be smooth with the throttle and keep a reasonable speed. I was averaging 75 for that tank (Abilene, TX -> Shreveport, LA), as I had received a speeding ticket just before filling up. Lose the big, heavy, wide wheels and tires - keep the stockers and keep them well inflated. Top up.
Around town average is 19-22. At the track mpg falls to 10. It's the same for all S2000s.

I am seriously thinking about initiating the throwing of the bullshit foul flag!
I am reaching for it right now.
If he said He got 35+ mpg averaging 60 mph that is the most I would believe.
My car is 80lbs lighter ( static weight) than a stocker, Original rubber with Irridium plugs, air filter and synthetic oil. I possibly could get 33-34 mpg at 60 mph on the highway. but not at 75 mph.
The wind drag at his " Averaged 75 mph" which is not " reasonable" is just too great to get 35+ mph. If he is indeed geting this much he has an exceptional car and it would not be the same for 95% of the S2000's.

Whoa, hey, no worries, mate! When I say averaged 75, I mean that's what I had the cruise control set at most of the time. There was some obligatory slowing down and speeding up for traffic; the tank took about 4.5 hours to burn. There have been plenty of other folks getting 32-33 or better, so with "perfect" conditions (cool air, smooth roads, tailwind) 35 mpg is not unreasonable. I remember being at 192 miles at the halfway point in the fuel gauge; could have gone 400+ miles had I felt like pushing it, but I had to pee!
Don't know if this made any difference, but...on this cross-country trip, the car had been getting 91 octane in CA, AZ, NM, and the west half of Texas. That tank was the first one where I got 93 octane. Could have helped???
Keep in mind there was no VTEC use for this whole tank, and probably never more than 1/2 throttle. It doesn't take much gas to keep the car going 75 with the top up, 36psi in the tires, and the fan off, especially in the (flat) east half of Texas. The cruise control is very judicious with its application (and just as importantly, its backing off of) the gas, and I used it to control the throttle for most of the duration, as I did for the rest of the 2300 mile trip.
I always got 29-30 until installing the SC. Dropped to 26 and has stayed there. I'm an easy driver, but will VTEC at least once a day - usually a couple of times - from start to 60-70 or so. My other vehicle (Ford F250 Diesel 4X4) burns enough fuel for both cars!
My mileage plot. Roll is a three-tank rolling average. High mpg during breakin while taking it easy, lowest mpg on a track day. Also, higher in summer, lower in winter, something I've seen with all my cars.
