not knocking mugen btw... i am a fan of their shit too. i have thier ap2 exhaust! IMHO the best exhuast for the s2k between livability, looks, performance, and sound.
Performance????? Mugen claims no extra hp...... just weight loss

Its because of your gears (which you say you changed) that you are keeping up, not the mugen stuff. If you like it, enjoy it, have fun with it, just dont tell newbies its the best thing in the world, because for the money, its the worst.
Also, Ill get flamed by all the JDM fans over here, but I refuse to take ANY company seriously that has a $165 dollar air filter.
i am running the 4.44's...and that is not the main reason my bottom end is good...the mugen ecu works wonders for the pre-vtec power of the car due to the timing advance and fuel mapping.....you obviously have no REAL experience with mugen parts...i hope you get the chance some day to ride in a full mugen package
Just for the record. I have nothing against Mugen parts. I think, if that's what you want to spend money on, go for it. For me, if I was a single winner in the Powerball, I probably still wouldn't buy Mugen parts. That's just me.
I have the Mugen exhaust and saw no HP gain on the dyno. NONE. But the car does sound much, much better. And then I upgraded to the 4.44 gears and saw a noticeable improvement.

Im not denying that a fully mugened out car is faster than stock. I would hope it is, for the money you are spending.
However, for the money it costs to do a "full" mugen package, I can have an s2000 twice as fast, for half the cost.

They DO have uses for some. Like this:
(No, it's NOT a pchop.)
If performance mods don't double as cookie serving trays, then I just don't want them.

It's generally accepted that it takes a lot more $$$ to go fast via the NA route than a FI route. And I understand that people have their reasons for choosing one over the other, but to say that Mugen is God is pushing it.
Any of you new owners who want to take the path of modification should definitely go mugen
Only if your wallet is pretty hefty. Let's take a look, shall we?
Mugen N1 ECU 1628.00
Mugen Radiator Cap 32.00
Mugen Thermostat 80.00
Mugen Fan Switch 49.00
Mugen Exhaust Manifold 1340.00
Mugen High Performance Air Intake System 1452.00
Mugen Sports Exhaust System 1658.00
Total: 6239.00
I would venture that a 4.57-equipped car would be competitive with a Mugenized car. And cost to play: 4.57r Comptech Differential 1450.00
And for comparison's sake, a supercharger can be had for less than the Mugen package. Comptech Supercharger w/ Aftercooler 5995.00 (from King Motorsports, but this can be had for a $1000 less in our groupbuy forum.)
