I have a Mugen-style VIS carbonfiber hardtop
I dont think you could tell from the outside that its not a real mugen.
Could you rephrase your question a little better though?

 

well it is a replica so yes the hardtop's look the same from the outside of the car. but on the inside the replica does not have the mugen badge, that is the only way of telling. I think?

they are different. And NO the mugen does NOT look like Vis. the Vis looks like the Mugen.

 

Mugen is the original creator; they designed & engineered the piece. They deserve all the credit for this wonderful hardtop we have available for the S2000.

VIS is another company that replicated/copied Mugen's original design. In a nutshell, VIS Mugen "STYLE" hardtops are a knockoff of the authentic Mugen.

The VIS is not 100% identical to the Mugen piece, otherwise they wouldve been sued. Additionally the quality of the material & fitment is not at par with an authentic Mugen piece.

If you put a Mugen HT beside a VIS, you will notice the poor craftmanship & materials used on the VIS.

Mugen makes their CF HT with high grade CF & it is in 1x1 twill. The VIS uses 2x2 & looks like it has a ton of resein. I dont know if VIS makes a FRP replica, however you can also tell from the rear window & seal. Mugen's is much better in quality & appreance.

There is also a thin black gelcoat inside an authentic Mugen FRP HT with a badge. The authentic CF Mugen HT is also CF inside unlike the VIS.

Hey.. I have just bought a vis mugen style hardtop and I'm wondering if the installation in the same in both of them. Is there and rubber strip at the part where the vis hardtop touches the rear trunk? You know.. the hardtop scratches my paint at the trunk. Also the window hit the hardtop when i close the door. I installed it myself and did not do it properly. How to install it properly? (I mean the vis mugen style one)

just get a oem hardtop...i think everything else doesn't look as nice/oem (obviously) as the oem one...

also which one is the top that stretches all the way to the trunk? those are ugly as hell... are they the mugens?
