MY 02' shifting out of 1st when cold.
In the last few days, I've been feeling a bit of resistance when trying to take it out of first gear to go to second gear.
It only last for the first 10 minutes until the tranny has warmed up. Anyone else notice this?

I've noticed this too over the last week or so when it's been cold in the morning. It's usually only 1st to 2nd in the first few minutes of driving. If I'm not careful, I miss second and sometimes have a slight grind.
Yup, 1 - 2 is tough in the early minutes after leaving in the morning. I guess it is just a characteristic of the tranny.
For the people who have this, just take it easy in the first 5 minutes, fully depress the clutch first then slowly move the shifter out of first and add increase pressure to get it into 2nd. Don't shift too fast or you'll get blocked and that might result in grinds.
My question is why only in 1st and 2nd?
3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th are all easy to get into even when really cold. I guess it has to do with 1st and 2nd having triple cone synchros compared to the other gears that only have double cone.
Woodwork, if you're out there, can you give us your insight into this? Thanks.

My car('03) does the same thing in cold mornings. It's not impossible, but just feels difficult to engage second gear from first gear the first time in the morning. I even had a slight gear grind while the clutch is fully depressed! Maybe I should take this to the dealer sometime?
I wonder why it only happens in 1-2 as well

Anyone else having this with the cooler weather lately?
It was about 20F tonight and it took my tranny about 20 minutes before that little resistance pulling the shifter out of 1st went away.
I am curious if this is clutch related or tranny related.
Should I be concerned. I am not grinding, just not a smooth path from 1-2 hence it alters my normal shifting rythm.
After it has fully warmed up, sometimes 10 minutes, sometimes 15, sometimes 20 minutes, the tranny is perfect. Is it just the cold or something else.

Every Honda (including my '97 Integra GS-R) I've ever driven has done this. It only happens to me on VERY cold mornings, and after I've made the 1st to 2nd shift once or twice it goes away, I don't even worry about it.
