Default My dilema :(

Right now I'm in a very big dilema as to which car I should get before I go off to college. All was very fine until my parents made me go and test drive some 3 series model's just to make sure that they weren't my cup of tea. I left the BMW dealer quite impressed with the 325Ci's punch and good handling and began to ponder whether or not the S2000 will be worth the extra effort and trouble of taking care of in college. I know for a fact that a BMW coupe will require much less attention than an S2k to take care of on a day to day basis(Re: me worrying about parking a beautiful S2k out in the sun, it getting rained on, ect.) I was just wondering if you guys could give some advice as to what to do because right now I'm wondering if I'm going to have to face the fact that the S2k is just not practical enough of a car to have during college.
Thanks ahead of time for the advice and I hope I didn't waste your bandwidth.
Bob J.

In school I would suggest the # series since you can take all of your buddies with you where ever you go.

Define what you are looking for in the car. They are COMPLETELY different vehicles. The BMW is a semi luxurious sedan whereas the S2K is a high revving race car.

If I am looking for comfortable rides with good cargo capacity, seating for 4, and respectable hp and torque, I will take the BMW anyday. If I am looking for a THRILL everytime I push the engine start button and dump the clutch - the S2K anyday.

My respectful advice is - know what you want from your car, it will make your decision MUCH easier.

1. You should always have such problems.
2.Caring for the S2000 is only as hard as you make it. Both cars would much prefer a sheltered environment (read garage or car cover).
3.You first need to decide what you (you lucky guy) want from the car. Do you need/want room for more than 2 ? If so you have answered your "Dilemna". If not , and you want the most fun drive EVER, you have answered it in the other direction(read S2000).
4.I traded a Boxster in on the S2000. I thought I loved the Boxster, until I got my hands on the S2000. Also, the S2000 needs nowhere near the maintenance of the Boxster. I would guess that the Bimmer is closer to the Boxster in maintenance needs.
5. You would probably make better grades in school if you chose the BMW. It's less seductive.

Lots of luck at school.

maintenance costs will be much lower on the s2k than on a bmw.

life must be good... delimma on a bimmer or a stook. Let's see, when I went to college, I have a 1984 Olds Cutluss Supreme with over 100k and this was but 1994.

Regardless... I think it's personal taste... it all up to you, what car do you want to be driving around all the time.

From what I've heard, you'll have the BMW in the shop much more often than the Honda, and it'll cost you a ton more. German cars are losing much of their reputation for reliability, although I don't know that they ever deserved it.

If I'm not mistaken, BMW USA offers 3yrs scheduled maintenance free of charge. Free can't be more expensive than Honda service. Just my opinion, I also have a 2000 328i and have not had a single problem yet (30k miles).

Just some food for thought. Since I have both cars, I love them both but just as someone said before, it depends on what you need.
