a friend said there was a puff of black smoke then nothing, my engine died. NO puddles nothing. everything looked clean from the outside. I went to the dealership and looked at the engine, its destroyed. They say its possibly from over revving, but I was only at 6000 to 7000 rpm (second gear at around 40-50 mph), and i havent over revved the car. I'm just really pissed off at this whole situation. When i saw the engine i almost cried. The pistons have dents in them from the valves. I keep hearing about the cars computer recording the last 30 minutes of driving time. The tech at the dealer cant check this even though i asked them, cause that would prove i didnt over rev.

Didn't there used to be some nut in Wyoming who collected a long thread about engine failures?

A few years ago a member had a spark plug back out. Due to the coil per plug design, the plug was trapped, battered around, cracked up and pieces fell into the cylinder. The result looked similar to fireball's. My guess is that the spark plug pieces jammed a valve, causing contact with the piston eventually poking a hole through the piston.

Assume nothing about the quality of dealer service. I've got a dealer 1 mile form my house. I had them change the oil in my S2000. The car seemed louder than usual when I picked it up - They forgot to put the oil filler cap back on. I gave them another chance with my odyssey about 6 months later - same result they forgot to put the oil filler cap back on.

Now with all the oil filter confusion find out what filter part number they used.
