Sorry to revive this thread, but I just managed to spill part of a quart of Mobil 1 gear oil in the trunk on my way home from the auto parts store!!! Just wanted to share the pain...

I'll be removing the trunk liner tonight, but I'm not too horribly worried about it. It mostly just dripped down under the tool tray and I was able to sop a lot of it up ASAP with shop towels. Hopefully, I can get most of it so it won't leave that sulfurous stench that anyone who has changed their diff fluid has probably come to know and love.

Don't be sorry.
I think is good therapy for you to share your pain and for all of us to be careful whenever we carry oil in our trunks.
I hope everything gets cleaned out OK.
Cheers,
Daniel

Yeah, I pulled the panel out and cleaned it up pretty good. I'm drying it all right now. Soon enough, you'll never even know it happened.

You know, it's really funny. After getting my trunk cleaned up after SEVERAL coats of degreaser, a bottle of "Rust-killer" spilled into the trunk area!

Again, I had to degrease my trunk liner. One things for sure, I have the CLEANEST damn trunk liner in all of s2ki.com!

Thanks for sharing your experience, helps me feel better.

Airgate, weren't you the one who left their top down one time during hard rain? You must have the cleanest all around interior too huh?

My trunk liner smells like Pan Fried Noodles. I don't know why I crave vietnamese food everytime I get in the car.

It all went away after a few weeks of 90 degree weather and the nice smell of Invidia induced burning bumper smell.

Ugh, I'm having trouble getting the smell out of the bottom liner to the trunk. I thought I had it cleaned up pretty good, but once I put the bottom part back in and left the car parked with the top up, I found that the smell began to permeate the interior of the car!!! I have now completely stripped the trunk down again, but that bottom piece is being a PITA to really clean.

Any suggestions???

Sure Just remove the bottom tool kit/panel piece. Never gonna use it on the side of the road anyway!

Haha, you mean pull out all the carpet beneath the toolkit, too? That's the part that really soaked up the oil.
