My first extensive experience with passing: wow!

And when I get stuck driving infront of an SUV at night with there lights aiming right at my mirrors, i just slow down and let them get infront and I drive behind them only to surprise them that my lights are brighter and flash as I go over the bumps. In the San Francisco Bay Area, where I live, there are very few 2-lane roads where you can practice passing techniques. Most are either multi-lane, twisty mountain roads, or city streets. When I drove around the west in May, I had a few hundred passing opportunities on rural 2-lane highways. After a while, I really looked forward to them.
The usual routine was to shift to 3rd gear while travelling somewhere between 60 and 70 mph, jam the accelerator to the floor, pull out, and shift into 4th at about 85 just as I'm pulling past. It was hard to keep from exceeding 100 under such circumstances, because the S2000 pulls so nicely at that speed.
I discovered that it was even more fun when going about 50 mph, because then I could shift down to 2nd gear and blast off. The car is truly amazing accelerating from 50 to 100.

I never knew passing was such a big deal; I guess this is something I miss by living in a huge city... There's not a single 2-lane highway around here for hours! The freeways are all 6+ lanes and even the city streets are 4+ lanes.

Many mods and more planned, but few for flat out performance: throttle body, Digrappa xbrace, front stabilizer bar on the way, new rotors and calipers, a new sound system, and of course all of the things that I now offer on the web site (which started out as mods for my own car). Next up is Mugen exhaust and headers and maybe ECU, resources permitting. Where does it all end? Everytime I think there's nothing left to change, more possiblities present themselves.
Yesterday, I repeatedly hit the rev limiter and passed four "vehicles"--- camper/pickups, pickups and trailers (horse trailers, utility trailers, camper trailers) and some semi's..... all on my favorite two lane--U.S. 16 over Powder River Pass (9,480 feet) crossing the Big Horn mountains.
What a great day driving!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh yeah....it was in my '93 Prelude VTEC. Do you think I'd park the S2000 at a trail head for a week? I was coming home from a week's backpacking in the Wind River Range.
