Sounds more to something I know from when I was leaving in south of France: if it doesn't rain for month, at the first rain, the dirt on the road makes driving like being on ice! I know to always drive very carefully in such situation until enough rain has washed the road clean. I agree with the others that this can't be hydroplaning

^^ Good job saving it, I forgot to mention this in my first response. The fact that you did not hit the curb proves that your are within the top 10% of drivers on the road.

You're more likely to damage the car without the skills you'd develop at autocross.

Get some blue tape, drive within your limits, and your car will be fine.
